Special report: Palestine-Israel Relations (http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/blst/index.htm)
GAZA, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Islamic Jihad movement's armed wing on Thursday said the ceasefire with Israel in Gaza Strip was "fragile and was expected to end at any time."

"We are using the lull to prepare fighters for the coming phase of confrontation," a spokesman for al-Quds Brigades, the Islamic Jihad's armed wing, said.

"Soon, we will be engaged in fierce battles against the occupation in Gaza Strip," the spokesman added, expecting that Israel will increase its strikes against the armed Palestinian groups when it retrieve its soldier who is held hostage in the Gaza Strip.

Egypt brokered the six-month ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the largest Islamic group which controls Gaza, in order to restore calmness and ease the blockade that Israel imposed on the territory last year to isolate Hamas.

Recently, Hamas itself said there will be no regret if Israel withdrew from the ceasefire deal since the commercial crossings into Gaza did not open properly and Israel kept violating the deal from time to time despite the full commitment by Hamas.
Meanwhile, al-Quds Brigades said the ceasefire has witnessed 10Israeli violations in its eighth week. The ceasefire took effect on June 19.
"Most of he violations, this week, targeted the Palestinian fishermen and their boats in the sea to prevent them from fishing," the group said in its weekly report about the ceasefire.

I could be wron on this one but... It seems to me there never was a real ceasefire, but... If there ever was one, it never was solid in the first place.

But, that's just me.

A full out ceasefire is not possible. The idf will always stay cautious, firing at farmers who come too close to the fence and the navy firing on fisherman Because they came too far out to sea is the bare minimum the idf will do. If we sat by and let them do as they pleased during the ceasefire the entire fence would be rigged with IED's, many more weapons would be smuggled, more kassam positions constructed. All of this is happening even now but idf warning shots are the least we can do without getting real media attention. But the truth is, any ceasefire really means time to reorganize and rearm for hamas. I praise olmert for trying to do this the peaceful diplomatic way but it just doesnt work. Talking to hamas just. Doesnt. Work.

Forget Olmert - anything he is doing is just trying to push the attention off his corruption scandals...i.e Syria peace talks

Ceasefires always come to light when the IDF squeezes tighter and tighter. In terms of talking with Hamas, I completely agree with you. There is no sense in talking with any terrorist organisation.

You can only look the future, where a huge military incursion is inevitable. As an Israeli, can you honestly think that Israel will sit with a situation like Gaza for the next 5 years?

Gaza militants fire rockets at Israeli army patrol

JERUSALEM (AFP) — Militants in the Gaza Strip on Friday fired two anti-tank rockets at an Israeli army patrol along Gaza's security fence, causing no damage, the army said, but again shaking a fragile truce.

"Two anti-tank missiles were fired at an IDF (army) patrol on the security fence in southern Gaza Strip, causing no casualties or damage," a spokeswoman said.

The attack threatened a fragile June 19 truce brokered by Egypt between the Jewish state and Gaza's ruling Islamist Hamas movement after months of deadly violence in and around the territory.

Israel has in the past responded to attacks by temporarily closing its crossings with Gaza through which badly needed foodstuff and supplies are imported into the impoverished territory.

Both sides have accused the other of violating the truce, with Hamas demanding that Israel lift its embargo of Gaza and Israel accusing the Islamist movement of using the period of calm to rearm.

Can you really believe Israel can do anything about Gaza? The Strip is not going anywhere and I read more about Sderot in Australian press than Israeli press. The bluffs about responding to breaches of the cease-fire and the bluffs about enforcing the Gaza sea blockade indicate an absolute lack of political will.

Six IDF soldiers wounded in mortar barrage on western Negev http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/images/0.gifBy Amos Harel (contact@haaretz.co.il) and Yanir Yagna, Haaretz Correspondents, and The Associated Press

Six Israed Defense Froces soldiers were wounded Friday evening after mortars fired by Gaza Strip militants hit a military base near Kibbutz Nahal Oz in the western Negev.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility from Palestinian militants in Gaza.

According to the IDF, militants have fired 11 mortars at southern Israel on Friday.

The mortar barrage came after earlier on Friday an IDF patrol clashed (http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1041935.html) with Palestinian militants in the southeastern Gaza Strip near the border with Israel, injuring at least two.

The violence is further marring a 5-month-old truce between Israel and Gaza militants that began breaking down in early November.

Israel has responded to mortar and rocket attacks from Gaza by tightening its blockade of the coast stripal. Only small shipments of aid and fuel are currently allowed into Gaza, deepening the hardship there.

Israel says cargo crossings won't open until militants halt rocket fire at Israeli towns.
