Interesting, thanks for that.

Question: Can someone please explain what is meant by the description of uses for the modernised tracers that says "with overshoot of bullet tracing basis."?

cheers,

I would guess it means the range on which the tracers start to burn visible at 50-120m from the muzzle. That is just a guess though.

It means - that the shooter could adjust fire, guided by the light of tracer bullets, which flying near the aim.

thanks for the reply......but

I should rephrase the question:
What is meant by "with overshoot of bullet tracing basis" in the uses for the "modernized" tracer rounds? ,

as opposed to the uses listed for the normal tracers which dont include the bolded attribute above.

Jippo is correct. The old Soviet Tracers started burning at the muzzle. This means that the enemy could establish the position of the weapon by looking at where the tracer appears. This new ammo doesn't ignite its tracer element till the round has travelled a distance from the muzzle. This distance is variable and it makes it much harder to spot where the rounds are coming from assuming the muzzle flash is not visible.

Is this a common feature on new tracer ammunition worldwide, or is a solely Russian practice?

Both types of tracer, normal and delayed, are rather common.

Most of the western military stuff I have used does delay ignition. The stuff for .22lr I have doesn't.
