but still very interesting and nice you found them. look pretty badass woot woot
Help me out with this one:
90% of the time when i see the daily pictures on this site, you see a attacked Humvee.
When you look closer you see that Humvee is 'A-team styled' (extra plating etc.)
after al those attacks, why don't they drive in Armored (tracked) vehicles?

I believe that the US is doing very well overall in this war but there are some problems like you mentioned. Probably the reason is, is that the politicians are controlling this war and not the soldiers. Another example of this was when the United States was in Somalia some soldiers requested AC-130s and M2 Bradleys but the politicians thought that would look bad so they didn't give them any and as a result eighteen Americans were killed in the Battle of the Black Sea.

it all comes down to money. equipping an armed force as large as the US Army or even the USMC completely with heavily armored vehicles isn't practical economically.
one col explained it this way - we have a general purpose toolbox - you can use it do a whole variety of jobs well. sometimes, however, you will need special tools.
HMMWV's were never intended to go into urban close combat against IED's. Yes we know all the lessons of the Rhodesians etc but it's not practical to have so many different types of vehicles for each different scenario. small countries like Rhodesia and Israel can afford to make their vehicles suit one kind of environment against one enemy...ours have to be ready to go everywhere against anyone.

Max Speed: 3mph. I'd rather get out and run faster.

Armor isn't issued to all units for various reasons. It is alot harder to move an element of people that are all equiped with something like the Bradley vs a unit with trucks. Also the infrastructure of certain nations can't withstand repeated travel by track vehicles.

Ther was a report on CNN a few weeks ago that the Army was rushing to either rerofit or buy as many up-armoured hummers as they could.
Ther was some debat over wether or not this was the best way to go. Some of the problems with this were the light weight of the hummers. They can be overturned by a crowd. Also the wheels burned to readily. Also they mentioned it was relatively easy to get a grenade (presumably an RPG) through the windows. The general in charge wanted to see more of the Stryker light armoured vehicles produced and moved into theather instead. Another gropus was advocating taking a bunch of the old M113s out of mothballs and uparmouring them as this would be faster and cheaper.
