Good Morning,

I am looking to possibly purchase a used Elcan Spectre DR. I would like to find one for as cheap as possible but in good working condition. If anybody knows of onbe or can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Not in any hurry just starting to look. Thank you

E-mail here for your questions: sales@armament.com if you're in the U.S. (Armament Technology). I hope you have a few thousand dollars, because it will be very expensive.

ATTENTION: This sight is currently available in limited quantities. Most of the orders are reserved for the military and law enforcement agencies. Please call for availability and shipping dates before you place an order.

Hey bro's,

Was talking to an ODA bloke and he reckons that although the sight is awesome with the DR, because the sight is zeroed by the whole thing moving ontop of the mount, should you actually knock those exposed knobs (or whatever they are called) the zero is stuffed. He also made mention of the little QR sight that most like to put on top is greatly affected by either it being knocked or the elcan zero moving.

A First Sgt I worked with loves his though. He hasnt shot it very many times tho.

I am looking at one myself and would love to get up to speed with peoples opinions.

Damn there expensive!!!!!! Eotec all the way haha

I'm not a big fan at all. Like you said, the way to adjust the optic might be okay if it's mounted on a SAW or 240, but that's about it. It's not precise enough for an M4 or M16. The lever to flip between 4x and 1x makes you take your hand away from your weapon whereas the ACOG/Doctor sight combo doesn't require that. And to top it all off it's really rather heavy and expensive. I debated between a Spectre DR and an ACOG/Doctor before deployment and I'm very glad I went the ACOG route. We were issued a Spectre DR while deployed and I found out about those niggles. One of our adjustment knobs also broke rather soon after we got it. It hadn't even really seen much abuse. My ACOG has taken lots of bangs and bumps, yet it holds it's zero incredibly.

All in all, it's basically an M145 that has a flip lever for 1x to 4x. That's about it.

It is o put a mini red dot on top of a 1-4x scope, don't you think...

this really call out the limitation of a scoped wannabe reddot sight.

The exposed adjustment has always been a really sour point for many and up until now, except for putting windage in a enclosed cap, your elevation is still exposed via the rear adjustment knob.

the DR was selected as the GPMG sight, not really a carbine sight.. the carbine use the ACOG TA-31ECOS, but no one is using it much neither...

the 1 to 4x lever is cute, you have to zero at 4x so you have the proper zero for long range shots, but when switch to 1x, you have a ever slight point of impact shift due to the swapping lens.

its big and heavy....and the battery for the red dot last no more than 80 hours...

you want to find a used one at a low ball price....GOOD LUCK......Elcan is still back ordered....6 plus months due to the miltiary order.

Pair of DR...

If i were you, buy a nice Nightforce 1-4x scope and add a Aimpoint T1 next to it....

It would be better to buy a S&B short dot and get the best of both worlds in one optic.

S&B short-dot and Nightforce 1-4X is the same idea. So you're looking for an adjustable magnified scope? How about just a Trijicon TA-31 ECOS?

Then put the Dr on top. Killer combo.

no need to put a Dr optic on top of a S&B short dot.

notof S&B, way too expensive and the NF 1-4x does about the same thing except for the red dot are a bit dim in bright sun light...

I actually mean to type 2.5-10x with a T1....sorry...

I agree. As to Nightforce, my experiences have been rather underwhelming- not in the same league, mechanically and optically.

Here's a pic with grom using it on the hk 416. Just ... thought I'd throw it out there.

Ya know - proper training with an ACOG will bring you to the understanding that the biden style sight that it has is defacto a "reddot" sight when used both eyes open under 200m.

At least that is how I was trained.

I do agree with your statement, but not a lot of people put in the time to be come efficent with the ACOG with BAC. that system is probably the best general combat opbtic in my mind, but the work involved to become effective from CQB to mid lonmg range will take some time, and $$(as in ammo)

That GROM 416 is kind of like a dog and pony show gun... I don't think with the eye relief thant Elcan is going to work with that mounting position.. plus the rear iron sight

Right on Chen, it was taken at official DWS (Polish SOCOM) conference, there was some equipment presentation - so it is just dog&pony put togheter. Not much to do with real config. Guys are used to ACOGs so they set DR's right (the relief at X4 magnification is just about same - some 7-8cm).

Those optics look badass in black. Wish SOPMOD II was black.

Here's another pic. Didn't know you could mount a doctor optic on it.
