Great pics. Is that the embassy you always see the footage of flames blowing out of a window as one of the soldiers ducks around a corner on the balcony? Were there any SAS killed in that raid?

no.

I read that one shot his fingure off with an MP5K. And the one guy that got his glove caught on the rappelling system got some burns from the flames.

I read that one guy at the back got the frame with the explosives to blow up the window got entangled as well, they had to use sledgehammers to get in.

The BBC made an excellent programme about it all last year (or a tad before). Really interesting listening to Salem (SP?) on the phone going, "I hear a noise, I will check...*" BOOM!

*Or something like that.

I believe this was the picture of an injury that was "Self-inflicted", and the ONLY injury at that. I believe he fell about 10 feet an broke either his leg/ ankle. Dunno, but sounds familiar

What i heard is that a flashbang ignited the curtains, hence the fire. The guy roping down had a problem with the abseil rope which got stuck and left him dangling above the burning curtains. One or two of his mates managed to help him cut loose and fall to the balcony after which he and the other two carried on with the assault. Apparently he had first degree burns on his legs but still saw the assault through.

That's what i've read, so if someone knows better correct me.

Don't quote me on this it's from memory.

Think there were five terrorists armed with pistols and hand grenades.

There's plenty of info. around on the internet, just do a search on google for "princes gate SAS" ... or something similar.

6. 5 dead, 1 captured.

2 hostages killed in the siege.
1 executed. 1 killed during the siege.

you can find more info of the assault and siege on BBC's website.

They weren't liked by the conventional Generals as they thought it was the fault of Special Forces for the failure in Vietnam. The failed Operation Eagles Claw wasn't going to go down well with top brass. I heard that in the 1970s after Vietnam, they did work similar to that of the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s. They advised the El Salvardoran government against the leftist guerrilla from 1981 to 1985. Which is the US Special Forces do quite a lot of now.
It most likely changed in the first Gulf War, when the SFs performance during Deser Storm made General Schwarzkopf change his mind on how effective they are.

It was a CZ Skorpion sumachine gun IMO. I have read that the terrorists used this weapon during the embassy siege...

it definately wasn't a Skorpian in the picture of Saleem(the leader).
