'Al-Qaeda' threat to US airlines

A statement purportedly from al-Qaeda militants in Saudi Arabia has warned of new attacks on US and Western airlines and other transport facilities.

"All compounds, bases and means of transport, especially Western and American airlines, will be a direct target...," it said.

Posted on an pro-al-Qaeda website, it asks Muslims to keep away from Westerners and such locations.

The statement's authenticity could not be immediately verified.

But it was signed "al-Qaeda on the Arabian Peninsula".

It comes as Saudi security forces hunt gunmen who attacked a BBC news team in a drive-by shooting in Riyadh on Sunday.

Cameraman Simon Cumbers was killed and security correspondent Frank Gardner is critically ill in hospital.

The two journalists travelled to Saudi Arabia last week following terror attacks in the city of Khobar.

A STATEMENT bearing al-Qaeda's name warned today that Western airliners will be the terror group's target.

The statement appeared on an Islamist web site known for posting messages from militants, including the video in which a terror group with al-Qaeda links executed the American kidnapped in Iraq, Nick Berg.

The statement's authenticity could not be immediately verified, but it was signed "(Al-Qaeda) on the Arabian Peninsula".

The statement referred to "crusaders" and warned "all that is affiliated with these crusaders - from compounds, bases and means of transport - especially Western and American airliners, will be direct targets of our next operations, with God's help."

The statement begins by warning all Muslims to avoid "contact with the American and Western crusaders and all non-believers in the Arabian peninsula."

It urges Muslims to ignore Americans and Westerners "in their homes, compounds, movements and means of transport - in all shapes and forms."

The statement says the purpose of this warning is to spare Muslim blood.
I guess they don't care about Iraqi Muslim blood, as they have killed quite a few in trying to incite a ****e/Sunni civil war. The bombings of the Mosques a couple of months back and numeroius attacks on Muslim's working with the Interim Gov. and CPA.

They have made plenty of empty threats, but it's a tactic. My personal opinion is that the terrorist keep issuing these statements in order to make it so common that most Americans are desensitized to them because we hear the threats and then see nothing happen. Then eventually when the threat comes that they do want to make good on (or they issue no threat at all) people will take it as another empty statement. They know the American media will eat that up and ask for seconds. The media seems to thrive on reporting anything to keep American's scared.
