Does anyone who has experience with the G36 class of weapon be able to tell me if the bolt can be locked in the hold open position, similar to the mp5, m4, AUG?

Bolt is locked open after last shot.

Or it can be locked in rear position when no magazine in the well, just by pulling it to the rear position and depressing the small button in the upper portion of the triggerguard. Originally it was made for safety/inspection purposes though, but then you can search for aftermarket parts (I think one Norwegian guy designed something called "cobracatch" or something) that replace the original part and turn it into an more effective bolt release, similiar to the one used in XM8.

A video about the XM-8 and the cobracatch. Locking the bolt is the same.

The "norwgian" g36kv3 that we had for trials, had a lot of the features from the xm8. Both the bolt lock and the mag-release
