PARIS/MOSCOW, Aug 29 (*******) - Russia and European powers took a step back from confrontation over Georgia on Friday, with Moscow urging the EU not to rush into punitive action and France saying now was not the time for sanctions.
Western governments have criticised Russia for sending troops deep into its ex-Soviet neighbour Georgia and recognising Georgia's two breakaway regions as independent, drawing comparisons with the rhetoric of the Cold War.
Georgia said it would cut diplomatic ties with Russia after Moscow recognised its rebel South Ossetia and Abkhazia regions. A Russian Foreign Ministry source told RIA news agency Moscow would respond by closing its embassy in Tbilisi.

i guess another embassy migt take up the task to help them.. maybe the embassy of Estonia since they seem to be quite close to Georgia
but it kind of surprises me that it took that long for them to cut the diplomatic ties to Russia after what they went through... i would have expected this to happen much faster

Just like the middle east buddies.
Needs some "Russia go to hell" and "Georgia will dominate the world" banners.

lol this guys are so brave :) I wonder why they didnt join the army...
Diplomatic help is not the main problem - economic things are more important. Thousands and thousands of georgians live in Russia or visiting Russia and sending money to their relatives in Georgia.

Georgia probably didn't think that move through too much. Honestly what does Russia lose from this move and what does Georgia lose?

Unlikely. Economic situation in Ukraine and Baltic states are bad. Also to move to Baltic states they will need a EU visas.
IMHO, there are only 2 states of post SU, where economic is developing: Russia and Kazakhstan. All others have serious problems.

I'm sure that not everyone ,plus every time georgian President is on TV he has an EU flag so I was thinking that for some reason Georgiaans don't need a visa to enter EU states.

I'm sure that not everyone ,
All Balkans states except Croatia and Slovenia, all exSoviet states except those being members of EU, I think Turks, Middle Eastern, North African, Central Asian... states...

Thats a new totem, like having Stalins picture. One has to show that he is believer in Eurovalues. I guess with having EU flag behind him Sakashvilli states that he is Eurobeliever, and that all he did and does was in name of western values. So, therefore, he should be considered as one of our/their own, and therefore helped.
Alas, European parliament envoy Jelko Kacin stated
http://blic.co.yu/politika.php?id=54515
"da bi Srbija prvenstveno trebalo da se "bavi sama sobom", jer joj je obećano članstvo u EU, dok Gruzija o tome "može samo da sanja"."
meaning
"Serbia should mind its own business, because it is promissed membership in EU. Something Georgia can just dream of".
