IAF bombs target near Beirut

Israeli planes attacked a terrorist site near Lebanese capital in response to rockets fired from Lebanon towards Israel this morning

Amir Buhbut

Israel Air Force planes bombed a terrorist target near Beirut this evening, in response to rockets fired from Lebanon towards Israel this morning. The rockets landed in the sea. An Israel Defense Forces source reported that the target was an infrastructure site that supported terrorist activity.

At approximately 5 am Monday, Hezbollah fired four rockets at an Israeli Navy boat of the coast of Limon, north of Nahariya. There were no injuries or damage. As a result the GoC Northern Command raised the alert in the western sector and two IAF helicopters were sent aloft. The IDF held consultations about confronting the terrorist groups that active in Lebanon, under Syrian and Lebanese governmental protection.

An IDF source said that two battleships are always in the area where this morning’s attacked occurred, one anchored and the other patrolling. Sailors abroad the anchored ship reported hearing the explosions but said they were never in danger.

dammit I was at work.

The target belonged to the PFLP. According to them that "site" has been disbanded for years. So ya I hope you guys can get better intel next time :P

The vessels came into lebanese terrirtory, so they had the rite to retaliate by firing rockets and not mortars. Hezbollah denied allegations of firing rockets. Anyways im tired so im gonna go sleep. Get someone else to argue for me.

I think this is more like a warning for terror groups in Lebannon.

Well if the lebanese government found that they are indeed using the camp to train people and carry out operations from lebanon then I don't agree with it. They should be shutdown (not by israel but lebanon). No one is allowed to attack IDF soldeirs from lebanon except for hezbollah. Not even amal. And hezbollah does not allow anyone else, because they will just ruin everything. OR it could be the same people that burnt/robbed the ministry, and caused organized chaos during the protests.

PS: Hezbolla doesnt need new mortars, its the palestinians that cant use mortars. ;)

I think that it's obvious why the Hizbullah responded, they are a society that worships death, suicide attacks and terrorists, who else could respond if not an international terror organization?

BTW, what the Hizbullah will do when Israel will deploy the Nautilus system in the Golan hights?

If you ask me ? they will try to insert their people into the territories...hell they are doing it now. Trying to hit us from inside Israel :|

Whats Nautilus System ?

The Tactical High Energy Laser

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Tactical High Energy Laser (THEL) program is a key component of U.S.-Israel strategic cooperation designed to counter short-range rockets. Israel faces a constant threat from Hezbollah-guerillas staging attacks on its northern border. The THEL, still in developmental stages, will serve to protect Israeli troops and civilians in advent of these affronts.

The THEL precursor, the Nautilus, destroyed a short-range rocket in flight during testing in February 1996 at a site in New Mexico, nine months after the project was launched. This was the first time a laser has ever destroyed a ballistic missile.

In April 1996 the U.S. agreed to accelerate high energy laser development after Hezbollah guerrillas fired over two dozen of Katyusha rockets at Israel during its 17-day period operation against the terrorists. Soon after, both President Clinton and former U.S. Defense Secretary William Perry have pledged to expand work on the THEL.

THEL will be a transportable laser weapon system which will be used by both the Israeli Defense Forces and eventually will have applications for the U.S. Army. The U.S. Army Space and Strategic Defense Command and the Israel Ministry of Defense are managing the program and the test program is conducted at the High Energy Laser Test Facility (HELSTF) in New Mexico.

Nautilus system shoots down Katyusha in joint Israeli-U.S. test

By Haaretz Service 7 May 2004
www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/424977.html

A long-range ground-to-ground rocket was successfully intercepted for the
first time in an experiment carried out in the United States on the Nautilus
anti-rocket system.

The experiment was carried out Tuesday in New Mexico by the Israeli Defense
Ministry and the U.S. Army.

Analysis of the initial test results shows that the system followed the
rocket and destroyed it in mid-air using a laser ray.

The system has so far successfully destroyed 28 Katyusha rockets in mid-air,
as well as five artillery mortars.

Major general (Res.) Shmuel Keren, Director of Development of Weapons
Systems and Infrastructure at the Defense Ministry, said that the system is
able to intercept a variety of aerial targets such as long-range rockets and
cruise missiles, to which there is currently no solution.

Several Israeli companies, among them Rafael and Elbit, are sub-contractors
in the project.

the government caught some people who commited these acts. A member from the amal movement was spotted exiting the US embassy prior to the attacks. And he is known to cause chaos before. And the area where the protests took place where mostly amal supporters.

As for why hezbollah retaliated, its because the IAF bombed inside the blue line. And only hezbollah is allowed to return fire (according to the lebanese government). Palestinians are NOT allowed to fight the idf from lebanon, or any other militia (if they exist). Also hezbollah know how to fire mortars that will only hit targets in the shebaa farms, and not inside israel, or other lebanese towns.
