If they are the same length you can do it.

You gonna put BUIS's on that?

Eggroll's idea is good. A new upper would be cheap, and you could get one in a new caliber, if you so choose.

Some free float handguards such as the ones on your Bushmaster take the place of the barrel nut on AR-15 rifles. You may need a barrel wrench in order to remove the free float tube and then a seperate barrel nut to go on th Bushy. If I were you I'd get a pair of the M4 duoble heatshield guards for your Bushy. You might find some more advice on AR-15.com.

I own a BM upper just like the 2nd picture. There is no connection for the front of the normal handguards, as there is no regular front sight. The free float handguard takes the place of the barrel nut and delta ring. So, no you cannot change the handguards. The solution is to change out the delta ring and front sight- or buy a new upper- which is way easier and more practical.

Back Up Iron Sight.
You'll need a flip up front sight too. If you want to be able to use the BIUS with the bushy milled gas block.
YES YOU CAN. Takes a little work to swap handguards, you'll need to remove the gas block, then get a wrench (cloth oil-can type works well on free float tubes) and remove the tube, replace the D-ring (also called delta-ring, its the ring against the receiver that holds the barrel in place and the handguard on) from the DPMS with a special wrench that has the posts that go into the D-ring. Then put the triangle front handguard holder on, then the gas block (milled from Bushmaster or reg from DPMS) then the hand guards. The chamber is headspace against the barrel so there shouldn't be an issue there. Shouldn't take a competent gunsmith more than 15 mins. All the tools needed and BIUS/Front sight can be found on Bushmasters website.

Oh, and by the way, save some cash and buy a decent scope.
In MY order of preference:
1 TRIJICON (ACOG TA31F/Mini ACOG 2x20 with red triangle/Accupoint 1.25-4 in red/Tri-Power/Reflex II)
2 AIMPOINT
3 EOTECH

Another solution: just swap the barrels, no removing gas blocks etc. Take off dpms hand guards, use tool to remove d-ring. remove tube with oil-can wrench, remove barrels, swap, put back tube/d-ring on, put back on handguards. I think the DPMS isn't chrome lined though.

With all the red tape and paper-work in California, the only people that get good deals is the TAXMAN!

Another tool you'll need is a receiver block for the vice.

Wait and see if the Assault Weapons Ban expires on Sept 14th, if it does get a threaded barrel and add your choice of flash suppressor.
