And very good pilots they were too. Practically all the Eastern Europeans pilots were trained to a higher standard the the RAF.

Check (!) out the Czech film 'Dark Blue World' for a fictional story about Czech pilots flying in the RAF. I had forgotten all about it as it got limited cinema release but found it for hire at my local video place. I really liked it, the effects are excellent for a smaller film using composite techniques, the Czech and British cast are great (its in Czech, English and a bit of German depending on who's talking to who), and most importantly there haven't been enough WW2 aviation movies recently.

Yes, a really good film. Try Mephis Belle if you have a change to find it.

The main B17 used to film Memphis Belle is sitting not 200 yards away from me right now. I work at Imperial War Museum Duxford, and the 'Sally B' is operated from here. The Spitfires in Dark Blue World were (I believe) from the Breitling Fighters collection, also based here. They used several different variants in the film.

I only recently started here, so I missed the delightful Miss Tara Fitzgerald when she came here to promote the film :(

I know it mate, although today I 'ave been mostly lugging around lumps of Concorde and massive scale models. On the bright side though, Sally B was out on the field for an engine test (I think), the BBMF Hurricane that was slightly damaged at the airshow has been flying about (presumably making sure its safe to fly back), and there're two Spitfires out on the field, though I missed them flying. I checked out the two Breitling Fighters Spits from the movie on my way back to the office. One's a Mark Vb and the other a slightly later mark. I'd love to ask the crews if I could have a sit-in, but I'd feel like a wally!
