I didn't know the term had an racial connotations.
It was usually used in conjunction with the "n" word, to refer to African-Americans who didn't "stay in their place".

The people on the mountain are uppity and are mostly white snobs. Like the congressman who to get his position had to at least rub up on the uppity class. If this was a Congressman from say New York, would this word be automatically linked with the n word? Presumed thought crime maybe? I have heard it used with the n word, so we are to presume this is just another Georgia racist hick?

Heard the word "uppity" used about alot of people but never did it have any racial connotations.
Sounds like someone is trying to scrape the bottom of the "scandal" barrel to get a decent political jab.

I've never heard of it in that connotation. Here's the definition for uppity:
up·pi·ty
****unciation[uhp-i-tee] ****unciation Key -
–adjective Informal.
1.affecting an attitude of inflated self-esteem; haughty; snobbish. 2.rebelliously self-assertive; not inclined to be tractable or deferential.
Hmm. . .no racial connotation there.

You may be too young to have heard it used in a racial way, which is good. I was hoping we'd gotten past that BS in this country.

Never underestimate the left from trying to pull a racial statement out of a time warp closet to get political points. Let the 60's junk stay in the 60's. These guys need to stop being so uppity about their dialogue. :bash:

x2 never heard anyone say it had a racial tone...
Lynn Westmoreland is a piece of work. Check him out on the "Colbert Report" episode from June 14, 2006.
"Representative Westmoreland wants the Ten Commandments displayed in the houses of Congress; Stephen wants Representative Westmoreland to name all 10."

What a tool. You can debate the true meaning of the word all you want but this ****wad mean't it exactly as it was perceived.
It's too bad the Russians didn't get him when they invaded.

I've seen - on this very site - constant referrals to Barack Hussein Obama, Obongo, and something like Obongongalongadingdong, and these, naturally, have no racial/ethnic/cultural undertones, right?
Gimme a break. Everyone's heard the term "uppity n****r" and they know what the connotations are. I grew up in NZ a quarter of a century after Dr King was murdered and I understood the term then. Let's not pretend that it means nothing now.

Let's do cause nothing but the insinuation of the article's author and the Obama spokesman seemed to be racially oriented. Like I said before is this because of his location, race? What? People just want to find something racial, I am tired of it myself. Obama seems to cause knee jerk racial accusations against his critics.

So this means we know what the Georgia white man is thinking huh? maybe he was but all I see are people who want to make of it what they will for their own paranoia.

In Rep. Westmoreland's case, "yes" most affirmatively.

I didn't say he represented every white person in Georgia in his thinking. Just that he is a tool.

Now I can agree with that, he is an uppity elitist tool. I just get tired of making racism out of something which the context does not imply. Maybe he was thinking that but I have yet to see any evidence of that. No one has brought forth his secret racist views yet.

Fantastic logical explanation. If you have evidence of his views please share and I will join the racist accusation crowd. Until then I see nothing.
