In March of 2000 Pavel Felgenhauer, an independent military analyst in
Moscow, wrote a scathing article about the Russian elite units saying that
they couldn’t content with their enemy. I don’t image he is to well received
in Russia. He mentions in the article that in one week Russia lost a number
of elite soldiers. Felgenhauer recounts the ambush of the Omon column,
the Pskov airborne company at Ulus-Kert and another action, which involved
a special unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian general staff.
His assertion was that 32 men were killed in the mountains of southern Chechnya.
Has anyone heard of this battle?
