Can anyone report how a Colt M4 is marked vs. a Colt M4A1 in US service? For example, on the fire selector, I do know the M4A1 is marked "SAFE-SEMI-AUTO" but is the M4 marked "SAFE-SEMI-BURST"? (reflecting of course the primary difference between the two being the full auto vs. 3-round burst capability).
Also, on the left magazine housing on the lower receiver, does Colt mark them "M4 CARBINE" and "M4A1 CARBINE" respectively?
Are there any other markings or other visible differences to tell an M4 from and M4A1 of similar vintage?
Finally, does anyone know when Colt began producing the M4A1 for the U.S.? (I believe the M4 was adopted in 1994).
