The M1s were supplied by the French (and from most accounts simply sound like M4A3E8 type Shermans (76.2mm M1 and HVSS). The M50 and M51 super-Shermans were entirely Israeli creations (though they got the parts from numerous places). The M51 is probably the most interesting of the lot, with an 105mm FN CN "D" (a CN chopped down so that it wouldn't unbalance the tank), an completely different engine (diesal as 'opposed to gas or vice versa, I can't remember which), HVSS, and a slightly modded turret. Was holding its own against T-62s. I believe some of various models of Super-Shermans were passed onto the Chileans after the Israelis finally phased them out.

Don't know if they count, but we gave some to Major Haddad's South Lebanese Army between Mivtzah Litani (1978) and Shalom HaGalil (1982). Maybe Hezbulloh has some still.

Check out this guys website about the Israeli Armour Museum at Latrun:
http://www.davidpride.com/Israeli_Armor/Armor_Main.htm

They told us the cannon (on the Super Sherman) was a French copy of the the German PAk 75 gun; high velocity.

These tanks were served by the spanish army, weren't they? That was an arabian (i think Sirian) Panzer IV and a Stug III taken by the Israel forces during six days war, I think.

I've read that Israeli Air force, had their beginnings has some Me109, is that true? No. Israelis used the Czechoslovakian Avia S-199 fighters which basically were copie of German Me-109's with different also German engine. But they were built in Czechoslovakia not in 3rd Reich.

Didn't the Israeli Messerschmids use the Junkers Jumo engine, the same as in the He 111. Or a copy of it.

Yes that's what i read, but it sound strange to me. All those things are really interesting, for example thise Panzer IV was sold by Germany to Spain, we have them in use until 195's and the we sold it to Siria, and now they are into a Israli museum.

Well, there's still a reason for why Israel won't use H&K MP5 and the diplomats won't ride in Mercedez... Or so I heard.
