Is it Quebec’s Day today? And a happy one at that?
Hmm… Are you saying the headache after St. Jean Baptiste Day was for nothing.

I have read many accounts of the battle, and I have heard of many instances of competence and incompetence on both sides. However, given that the attack began at night, and the battle began in the morning, the chances that the French were drunk were between zero and none. Montcalm had very serious problems, but they were caused by his near constant arguments with the Intendent and Governor of the Colony. The fact that Vaudreuil had ordered the regiment guarding the cliffs to go to the east of the city (countermanding Montcalm's direct orders) and the fact that the horses used to haul Montcalm's field artillery had been appropriated to help someone's harvest did not help his battle plannning in the least. In the end, Montcalm's troops were not well trained, his commanders were unsure of themselves, and the men were facing a well drilled enemy. In fact, the first volley that the British fired at Quebec is considered to the the most deadly single volley that has ever been fired in battle. The fact that the French were in a position to be slaughtered by it means that alcohol was not a problem, but a lack of training was.

Kindly inform Major Heyward that he has little to fear from this General Marquis de Montcalm in the first place; and scant need of a colonial militia in the second because the French haven't the nature for war. Their Gallic laziness combines with their Latinate voluptuousness with the result that they would rather eat and make love with their faces than fight.

Was in Quebec City months ago, Quebec Beer beats Canadian beer hands down.
Boréale Dorée > Molsons.
Even Quebecois girls are whiter and more genuine, I'd expect girls from Toronto to look like Elisha Cuthbert, somehow they all turned out to be spoiled Canadian born Chinese chicks and brown Indian ones.
In terms of buildings / architectures
Quebec city = Western Europe
Toronto = Communist China
Quebec is simply better than Ontario in every aspect (haven't travelled to other Canadian regions though, they sound boring)

I feel the need to emphise this part...
Indeed Quebec (the province) is boring. I'm in Ontario almost every weekend and first thing you'll notice when crossing for the Highway 40 to the 417 is that Quebec's roads looks like they are out of a warzone that would have had a flight of B52 bombed it.
This whole ****ing province is controlled by trade unions, students go on strike every year because boohoohoo they have to pay a mere 6% of the total cost of their education!!!! We have the absolute LOWEST education fees in North America and yet these socialist pussies cry.
Rant off now, I'm starting another with my parent concerning why they moved from Edmonton to here rofl

Well, we are way the hell off topic, but then again, this thread was hardly a heavyweight, so here goes. I have a sister who lives in Toronto, another who lives in Nova Scotia, a brother who lives in North Hatley, and I live near Montreal. All of us love where we live. One of the great things about Canada is that you can easily find the place that suits you, and man, life can be great. Personally, I would love to move out to BC, as the incredible beauty of the place is awe-inspiring, and the people are very friendly. In addition, the skiing is among the best in the world.
Once though, I visited my sister in Toronto, and I remarked to her that Toronto had a heart, but no soul. She stopped for a bit and replied, "Yes, but neither does Montreal."
I wondered why she said this, then it became clear. Although she lived near Montreal for much of her life, she only went into town to work and shop, and she never did learn French. Now that she lives in Toronto, she sees it with far more clarity. Montreal is a great city, but unfortunately for most of the people on this forum, they will never get to experience it, as you must speak French to really do so. BC's heart may be in Vancouver, but her soul is in the mountains and rivers of the province, and that has to appeal to you if you want to really enjoy your visit there.
We Canadians live in an incredible country, but like people from every other place, we tend to look on our home region as the best. That regionalist attitude has gotten us into a lot of trouble in the past, and it will probably continue to do so. Don't be so quick to judge other regions, and you can enjoy and experience so much more. Most of us laugh at Newfoundland, but I have never met anyone who has visited the place and not loved every single minute of their time there.
Back on topic: I raise my glass of O'Keefe to General James Wolfe and to his men who fought and died in Quebec: Here's to you good sirs. May your memory live on forever, or failing that, for quite a while yet....
Dean.
ps. I have not seen any O'Keefe for ages, and the microbrasseries are taking over the market. Their products are far superior to anything Labatts, Molson and O'Keefe could ever put out.
pps All that being said, Chez Parée beats the Super Sexe hands down.
