Hello,
Yesterday I was Issued the new Canadian rucksack, only have 1 picture to share at the moment, most of you have probably seen it, but for those that havent.
The ruck can hold 200 pounds, or 80 liters. It comes with a compression bag for your sleeping bag, that gets stored in the bottom of the ruck, there is a special pocket for this, and you can open it and take out the sleeping bag kit no problem at 0' dark hundred. On the inside of the ruck, you can seperate it into 2 sections, a top and bottom one. This is nice because you can store operational kit on top, and sleeping/snuggle kit on the bottom.
You can also attach various 4-8 L bags on the outside, with items you might need quickly and not want to dig though the entire ruck for.
This has been in the manufacturing process since 1998, and is the 22nd version. There are also metal rods in the back that you take out and bend to fit your back, so each ruck is custom fit.

That's a big step up compared to the last one...very nice!
Just wondering, but are you Reg Force? reason I'm asking is because I'll be signing up in a few weeks and just wondering if thats how your living quarters are?
Anyone know if it's going to get issued to everyone, or just cbt arms?
And Mr. Rhtuner, enjoy the 'mega'.

Yes, I am reg force, the room in the picture is indeed my living space, if your going infantry, and going 1RCR thats what you'll be living in.
As for is being issued the rucks I dont know enough to give a good answer, I just know, people deploying have them.

Yes, I'm going reg force, infantry but not sure what section/group
Mind if I PM you a few questions about living on base and the infantry?

Man it's about time 031 gets a properly designed rucksack! Good for you guys, and I hope it's a well made piece of kit (meaning durable). Thanks for posting.

Looks quite PLCE-ish, except without the sidepouches. Bottom opening for sleeping bag sounds good too, as long as the zip doesn't go pop!
How do you carry your patrols pack/daysack at the same time tho?

New Ruck, more sh!t to pack in it, 64 pattern in still more versatile. I have personally used it and found it a pain, mind you for taller dudes it may work better. The RCR will have kinds of room in those rucks to pack all their Issued gear.

It isnt a zipper, its buckles. There is a spot for the daypack in the upper portion of the ruck, so you can drop your ruck and carry on with your daypack.

lol @ the Xbox 360 playing in the background :P.
The ruck looks a lot like the Kifaru EMR that I was actually thinking of buying myself. You go on any ruck marches etc with it yet? And I don't suppose you know when us reservists are going to be geting them do you :P ?

I got issued the ruck in Aug, and I am an armoured reservist. Don't have to much experience with it yet, but have done 5k, and 2x 8k marches with the bad boy. The thing is HUGE, alone it weighs 21lbs. The Ruck is fitted specifically to the individual, using different waist belts, shoulder straps, and ruck size, and the internal stays formed to the individual. It has carbon fiber tension rods that transfer majority of the weight to the hips, and enough straps to drive someone nuts. On the marches I've done I've found it not to fit right with the tacvest, and causes the waist strap to rub on your pelvic bone and actually cause bruising and blistering.
but it is HUGE!

Anyone know if it's going to get issued to everyone, or just cbt arms?
I've heard that all cbt arms units, reg and Mo', will get it and then deployable reg force units. Everyone else keeps the the crappy old one.

It is a monster, to bad the thing will sit in my garage as there is no need to pack it on my PANZER. Will only use it for Bug Outs. We don't use rucks for the fitness test. Another thing to add to the garage monster.........

Our guys are deploying in march and we don't have this yet. Reminds me of a patrol pack x 100000.

That would make a lick of sense. And anyone who knows, realizes the CF is not a place to make sense.

I have tried out the ruck sack many times now, and...
Its junk when your wearing your Full Fighting Order, its good if you just have your Tac Vest on, or doing ruck PT. But when FFO is on, it doesnt fit the frag vest, and once you put the plates in your vest, it destroys any concept of having the alumi frames to fit your back. Also, the higher ups think because it has more room, we must fill it with more kit we well never use. Hope that changes soon :|
