MTV's have alot of protection. More than any other vest out there that I have seen. The only problem is that its heavy and more bulky.

Mundzos,
Any answer to your question will start with "It Depends." Similar to how much insurance to you get for your house or vehicle.
The first question, I would ask is "What is the intended use of the Ballistic Vest?" ( I hesistate to use the term Bullet Proof ). For example, do you anticipate being in a high threat enviroment and can reasonably expect to have rounds flying or something less hazardous like riding in a Brinks truck and picking up bank deposits.
It's basically a game of give & take. In general terms, the more protection offered by a vest, generally, the more it will weigh and thus reduced mobility. Conversely, lighter the vest can equate to more mobility, but less protection offered.
There's several well known, established companies like Point Blank and Second Chance.
If you end up getting a vest, its wise to have it fitted correctly. My current rig is rated to Level III by PT Armor and I "know" it can take a few rounds. Actually, its my second rig by them ;-)
Cost various from a couple hundred to much more - all depending on protection level, differing plates, and misc add ons.

One that you will faithfully wear. I've used PACA, American Armor and Second Chance (all in IIIA) thankfully they all were retired without having to prove their ability.

X2. At work I wear level IV and by greatest discomfort to date is getting hot and sweaty. All in all I can't complain.

I was interested into 3A level that could be upgraded to level 3 with additional plates. I just found New Second chance for $500 which is not that much...
I did mention this vest already a view times.
Its cheap its with the plates it WILL save your live.
Including the ceramic plates 300 to 350 euro,s.Xarmy
I did wear this piece off equipment for 7 months on and off .I even slept in it I love it.

On the civilian side I've worn level IIIA and level IV vests (PACA and Second Chance). On the military side I've had to wear Level III soft body armor (for a security detail I was on for three months), RBA, IBA, and the new IOTVs. They all have their advantages and disadvantages, so it depends on what you need the vest for. And just out of curiosity, what would you be needing this vest for? Is it for work, as most gigs that require body armor (law enforcement, corrections, or security work) will issue you the gear you need. If not, I'd seriously considering finding a new employer.
