BAGHDAD, Iraq - Two bodyguards of an Al Rashid District Advisory Council member died June 8 in a small arms attack by anti-Iraqi forces. The council member was wounded during the incident.
A Task Force Baghdad patrol found the council member's disabled vehicle and provided immediate medical assistance. The council member was evacuated to a local hospital with wounds to the leg, shoulder and chest. He is in serious, but stable condition.
A Task Force Baghdad spokesman condemned the attack on the council member.
"Insurgents continue in their attempts to disrupt the move toward this nation's sovereignty," said Lt. Col. James Hutton, the 1st Cavalry Division public affairs officer. "This action will not deter the Iraqi people."
The incident is under investigation.
