Hmm... would this sell in the US market? The Lada Niva, "A fully enclosed farm tractor with radio."
Key thing to remember:
"A Lada costs between $3,000 to $5,000, while a new foreign car costs at least $10,000, beyond the means of most Russians."
There's people buying laptops for $3000 here in the US, you can get this base truck and pimp it out for another $2000-3000 and have something that will have everyone wondering what the hell that was that just drove by...

Maybe these are more practical, watch out General Motors! :D

Isn't gas like $17.50 a gallon in Europe? Driving a sweet F-150 would mean a 2nd mortgage just for gas money (then again, you could pile like 3 of those Lada thingies in the back, 1 in the passenger seat & charge them for the ride...make a few bucks..)
rassian cars sucks .
niva like 20?or 15 years old and still looks the same.
btw top pic photoshoped.

I dont know how this particular cars performance is, but i would rather not drive a car made in Russia.
I'll stick to my GM/Fords/Dodges.

I kind of like this one, it reminds me of an old Land Cruiser, which is my favorite kind of car. All the others look too European for American tastes.

Russian cars sucks because they ussualy have carburetor not injection...
And lada niva is quite good car, for its price and terrain "courage" it is wery good buy esspecialy for pimping it out and trashing it on on off-roads without mercy...

Runs on just about anything that burns, and there's really nothing in it you can't fix with a hammer :D :D
AND in off-road, it goes to places where a Land-Rover won't go!

Can't agree more, but western nations are to soft buts to use that mastery of wheeled engines...

well considering theBMW x5, landrover (range rover) and the mercedes G-wagon are very european (and popular) i don't think that is too much of an issue....but look at the interior...no cup holders, no dvd, no ps2 or xbox, no wood grain, and if i buy it would i be able to throw some 23's or 24's on it...if not i'll pass...lol

One of the local gamekeepers has one of the short wheel base Lada jeeps and he has had it for eons it just seems to keep on going.
Russian marine diesels are noisy unpleasent things that swallow diesel like there is no tommorrow but they last forever and are nearly impossible to kill.
I know there is still a stigma attached to Skodas but by all accounts they are nice cars these days.

You, Sir, know your ****.
I remember when I was 10, in Ukraine, the street (wwhich was downhill) was COMPLETELY covered in ice. Nissan SUVs, Mitsubishi Pajeros spun around, but the 'bobik' made a 90 degree turn into a driveway (at a decent sped) and that turn was SHARP.
I was actually inside a 'bobik' once. The ride is actually not as bumpy as most ppl presume.

I shuddder to think what my neighbors would do with a tracked SUV.
Spinner roadwheels with motion active fiber. The hell with dubs, now they'd be talkin 40s. Hydraulic lift kits. Chrome tracks. The mind recoils in horror.
eeeeuuuueuueueeuuuuoooooooouuullllll!
That being said, I always wanted a car with a BA hydraulic lift kit. So BA in fact that it could lift its hind-quarter high enough to jet out a rerouted windshield-washer stream of yellow dyed fluid on the car next to it.

If you don`t mind, I think that the kind of RAV 4 and other SUV`s for ramat ha sharon bourgeoise is not in the subject here, if you`re looking for cheap and efficient, at least in temperate climate, go for Niva and family.
as for the 4X4 capacities of those big urban SUV`s you see everywhere, beside the Isuzu trooper and some subaru (old), you don`t see anything that really holds the ground.

I'm not from ramat ha sharon, I'm from Ariel.
There's a reason why Lada cars are not being sold in Israel since the 70's.
P.S. There's no such thing a cheap car in Israel, they are all expensive.

Hehe. UAZ really is the mastepiece of russian car desing. You have to see for yourself what kind of places it can go... Not to mention the ZIL truck. Now that this is amazing! It eats fuel like theres no tomorrow, it's engine is hopelessly underpowered, it takes about a minute to accelerate to 60km/h, it's big and ugly as hell, but it goes anywhere!

I think the Cayenne is the gayest SUV on the market. It's like, "Oh no, my SUV has some dirt on it!" I don't think any of those has ever seen a dirt road. And I'm in the advertising industry, I should know. And for that matter, people who spend godawful amounts of money on stereos look like jackasses. I have a CD player in my car, and I'm quite content with not having it be heard in over a 3-mile radius.
Rawr! *hiss*

Russian cars are rather maintenance heavy, or at least those cars I've met...
But they are inexpensive and more effective than most other vehicles.
They are so cheap you could buy a new one every year. And also go up in price, since after a year the owner has fixed the bugs in the car to keep it running.

If I wanted to go offroad, I wouldn't buy an SUV - I'd go for the real sh*t! ;)
