good read,
would i be flamed if i said i agree with the suggestions put forth?
then again, not being an infantryman i cant speak to the psychological effect that eliminating regimental names in favour of numbers would have...
I enjoy reading the stuff on CASR. It is usually good food for thought. However, this is as much a pipe-dream as the FIBUA Leopards or the alternative to the MGS. Further, I think this may go a tad too far. Of the military personnel I've spoken to--and this is nothing like a polling sample or anything, just some people around the base, a couple have been in for over a decade, but most have been in less--they dismiss the ideas pretty quickly. One of my friends was especially vehement about the removal of regimental names. Tradition is important to building unit cohesion and the belief seems to be that by removing regimental names, the already battered morale of the Land Forces might take a groin kick.
Do the ideas have merit? I think many of them do. I also think that such a radical change is unlikely. However, even adopting a few of these suggestions might be a good idea. Change has got to come at some time, somehow, for the Forces to survive.
i hear from alot of soldiers that are pissed off about the changes our 'smart' governemt is making to 'improve' our military
