Hey guys,
I was wondering if any of you might know (or have links) about early Automatic Grenade Launchers... Didn't the Soviets have one during WW2? The earliest ones I can find started the development in the 1960s; were there any before that?
Thanks,
Tema

Some info here
http://world.guns.ru/grenade/gl00-e.htm
Earliest seems to be the Soviet Taubin 40, is also mentioned here
The Automatic Grenade Launcher concept did not commence with Western armies. The Soviets had prior to World War II experimented with the idea of Automatic Grenade Launcher and developed the Taubin 40, 6mm automatic grenade launcher prototype as an alternative to the 50mm mortar. The developer Taubin during the developmental phase was caught up in Stalin's infamous purges and later executed. The Red Army allowed the concept to fade away and it was not revised nor achieved further development or implementation until a response to Soviet observations of US forces in the Vietnam conflict.

That's awesome, thanks. Exactly what I was looking for - the Taubin.
I guess I should've looked at the World.Guns.Ru Grenade Launcher Introduction before asking, though. *facepalms*
...but thanks, mate. :D

40.6, gotcha
I forget you guys that use the inferior metric system use a comma instead of a decimal like us silly Amercians use.

Heck, it's pretty frustrating - at times, I can't even remember what I'm supposed to use.
Standardization ftw!

The great thing about standards is there are so many to choose from...
If you said '6-pounder AGL' it'd still be to a standard...:p

ANSI, AISI, ISO, DIN, GB, DME... So much fun having to know 'em all

Global standardization, then. :) I know, I'm optimistic...

Actually here in NZ we use the more modern metric units system and we use a full stop for a decimal point and a comma to seperate thousands... ie 40.6mm
