It seems that my google-fu has failed me, as I have been able to find nothing on this. While I was at OHMR AT last week, I heard from our Training NCO, while at the Camp Perry AAFES, that we wouldn't be moving to the ACU because he said that the Army had set a wear-out date for the uniform, in favor of something called the BCU, supposedly. I just played it off as possible wishful thinking on his part because he's not a real big fan of them :roll:. Later that day at evening chow, I heard the same thing from several troops who said it came down from the Corps CSM. I still wasn't sure what to think until the last day, when we were released from duty, my unit's 1SG said the same thing: That the Army was looking at a uniform similar to the MCCUU. Now our Top is former ARNG, served 20 plus years in the Guard, still does alot of work and even recruits for them as well. I have an ass-ton or respect for the man, and as such, take everything he says as gospel. Even our CO was talking about it at a 2-day recruiting mission this weekend.

So, has anyone heard about this elusive "BCU?" Cuz, I haven't been able to dig up anything about it....

Hooah!

I donno about "BCU" but the army is "supposedly" coming out with a new improved version of the ACU modeled more after MARPAT. Then again some people say we're gonna get multicam in 2012 p-)

ACU -> BCU -> CCU -> DCU
An obvious evolutionary step

There is an improved version of the ACU's being field tested right now. Not sure if I have heard it called the BCU however. And everyone getting issued the BCU that has been linked too makes no sense at all. I could see combat arms and maybe convoy tyeps getting it but not force wide.

I gooled the subject at hand, and I found out that the army has already made inprovments to the ACU. Reinforced crotch stiching, re-enforced hook and loop closures, and flame resistant materials. About the color of the uniform.....do not hold your breath, the army stands by the tests about the effectiveness of the acupat on the acu.

I read quite a bit how soldiers whine about the effectivness of the acu, and how it sticks out like a sore thumb in the desert. From experience with the woodland BDU and the OG107 fatigue uniforms, the ACU blends in better at long ranges versus the BDU. The ACU also blends in better at night, because of the colors of the tan, and grey/green. If you want to see a uniform that sticks out a mile, the old OD green uniforms are like a beacon in the daylight, and the woodland pattern only blends in with the deserts of Utah, and Nevada, and Washington, and the woods of gerogia and Europe. And the new boots...I wish they had those when I was in...ever seen a high gloss shine on NVGs at night? looks Like a sun in the moonlight.

From the sounds of it, the people crying about the ACU are REMFs........

I invented the Ballistic Combat Uniform (BCU) and wore it while serving in Iraq with the First Infantry Division in 2004. It enables the wearer to quickly add or remove flexible ballistic inserts to protect areas not covered by a ballistic vest: upper arms, elbows, lower back, hips, upper legs and knees.

I submitted the BCU to the Soldier Enhancement Program a few months ago in case the Army might find it of value.

I also submitted strap-on Ballistic Elbow and Knee Guards and the US Army is currently testing these. This is a video of the Ballistic Knee Guard stopping various pistol rounds: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjcKxXofXYw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjcKxXofXYw)

I will be happy to respond to any questions regarding either product or ones dealing with the patent process, patent attorneys, etc.

Sincerely,

Matt at TACARM (http://www.tacarm.com)
