Ok so is the MICH helmet really going to take the place of the PASGT helmet? If so are they going to make modifications to the MICH so that it covers more of your head and does not expose so much? I hear you might be more vulnerable to rear shots and shrapnel because of the small round shape of this helmet. It also does not look very intimidating, it looks like a bike helmet. I think the German-like design of the PASGT was very cool and covered a good amount of the head. I think that they should use the same shape as the PASGT or maybe even the experimental M5 but at the same time use the same materials as the MICH so that it is still really strong. Will the MICH ever become that classic American helmet that everybody recognizes like the M1 or are they going to change it up a bit. I just wonder these things sometimes.

The MICH/ACH has replaced the PASGT in the army and the LWH replaced the PASGT in the USMC.

ACH/MICH may have Officially replaced the PASGT, but there are still Very Many Troops wearing it. I for one by Choice prefer the PASGT to the ACH. I retrofitted Mine with the 4 point chinstrap and the Pads lining, No Complaints from me and I appreciate the extra Protection it affords.

Is this related to airsoft?

Is this related to airsoft? no, I would have posted it in that section if it was. This is about the real thing. You can use PASGT and MICH helms for airsoft though, a bit expensive I would think.

Recently, I had seen a PEO Soldier memo? that showed a soft Kevlar nape pad to protect the back of the head/neck, it looked as gay as Richard Simmons.....

yeah helmet design these days is way different than back around ww1. They made some sweet looking proto types back then that looked like knight helmets and greek helmets and stuff like that. Now we got no sense of style.

The MICH is far better than the PASGT in my opinion. The suspension is a lot better, it's lighter, and offers my dome alot better protection. Wearing a PASGT's sweat band used to drive me crazy.

Moved to the equipment and gear thread, leave the general section for military news type topics.

the ARL team is designing a new helmet made from a completely different material than Kevlar. They are experimenting with UHMWPE which is suposed to be strong. I dont know weather the apperence of the helmet will change at all but it might be nice. You can read more about it here: http://www.army.mil/-news/2008/03/24/8086-arl-researchers-lead-next-generation-helmet-development/

Yes it is an M1. At the time Aliens was made the Kevlar Fritz helmet were still new and very difficult to get on the civillian market, so the prop department used M1 helmets and jazzed them up.

It doesn't look that cool, but it actually makes the helmet more comfortable. Esp with NODs on. Retains a good bit of heat though.

the headsets were really hard for me to get comfortable, seems one side was always not creating a good seal and letting in external noise which while on the road isn't good when you are trying to listen to the cc above the wind blowing in your ear. The ACH is a great improvement over the PASGT, i have less headaches when wearing it for over an hour, like when you are going on patrol or on convoy ops. I love how well the ACH was suited or jumps also, having to strain against the crash pad while trying to adjust the bunny ears wasn't fun inside the aircraft .
