I began shooting roughly two years ago and while I have gotten a fair bit of trigger time I have not (shame on me) really learned how firearms work, how the models differ, etc etc. For example, what does it mean that an assualt rifle uses a gas system? What is the internal difference between my favorite 1911 and the glock that I nearly blew  my toe of with? Etc etc

Can anyone recommend a resource for someone who is NOT familiar with the mechanics of firearms that lays out the basics?

Thanks

What country are you in?

Not so much to point you at a book, as to point you at people that can answer these questions live and in person. With examples. Far better than a book.

Example of how and M-1 Garand action works. Maybe useful because it shows the parts moving and doing their thing. Unfortunatley, without a grounding in the terminology it may not be that helpful.

Here is good teaching group in the US that has people everywhere.
