A NORTH AMERICAN MILITARY

I believe that Canada and the United States should create a North American military, kinda like Nato or the WARSAW Pact. But juss our 2 countries, cuz we dont need mexico;).

A combined defense budget, bases, and so on? We already have a full military alliance. Both militaries go on the occasional exercise together. We also have a combined Air Defense Command for North America.....

If the Canadian and American militaries did merge it would still be called the US Forces not the North American forces. Canada would not be able to contribute much in ways of forces or funding to a combined force. Nor would the American or Canadian people want such a thing. I mean the total number of regular Canadian army is 19 500 and the reserves are 15 700 roughly. And that's combat arms and supply personel. So Canada couldn't even contribute a full Infantry Division to the force. And US personnel aren't gonna want to have to live here to make up for Canada's manpower shortage.

What I'm trying to say is Canada is not on equal standing with the USA, militarily. So they would not be equal partners and if Canada did want to merge with the US it'd mean giving up it's rights as a nation. Which come to think of it isn't such a bad idea.

You dont need Mexico? North America is comprised by Mexico Also. ANd what you say about a North American Army, could be, but no, military soveregnity (i am not sure if spelled correctly) is much more important nowdays, you can have treaties on anything except military, Joint Operations maybe, but not a one and only army.

No, our military is small compared to our population because our government refuses to spend an appropriate amount of money on it - prefering instead to send billions of dollars into things like gun registries and phantom job-creation schemes.

Our military spending as a part of our GDP is amongst the lowest in NATO - one of the only nations lower is Iceland. And they don't have a military.

Why don´t you make more research on that. Historically, the french back in the 1800's invaded mexico, their original idea, invade the US and gain back some territory, mexicans back in the day stopped them. One thing we do contribute, if you do not know is, men. During most of US lead wars we have "voluntarios" for war. Anyway, you do not take decistions for any command at all, and you do not decide whether we are "needed" or not. And the idea of merging armies would not be possible anyway, like i mentioned, JOINT OPERATIONS.

Hey Ghost I'm actually in the Canadian Army and from what I can see the problem is not population size. It's just that the large portion of Canadians don't want to serve in the military. Either because they are ignorant or affraid. Today Canada's population is 30 million and out military is only 57 000, and that's all elements of the forces. In WW2 and even in the Cold war we had a smaller population but a way bigger military. Hell even in the 1980s we had around 90 000 troops and sailors and airmen. The problem ain't that our population is small, it's that our population are lazy, cowardly, ignorant or liberal pot smokers! OR all of the above.

UH NO!!! DUH!

I have nothing against the canadian military, they are wonderful at what they have done and are every bit just as much of warriors as their american counterparts.

My problem with dedicating American troops to Canada's defense is that Canada will do nothing on their side of the deal. Their military has all but collapsed due to all of its funding being funneled out to social programs. The Canadian government can't even watch their own border, if we "merge" it will make the border situation even worse than it is now.

What would be the need for such an agreement anyways? A free ride perhaps? rofl
