REGIMENTAL PRAYER
Almighty, merciful, and loving Father,
you are the one who hears all our prayers and grants our petitions.
We ask you to remember, as we do,
the tremendous sacrifice made by those who went before us.
They have given their lives so that we might live and breathe freely.
We ask you to receive them into your hands.
Father, give us the strength and wisdom to learn from their example,
to uphold freedom and life at home and around the world.
Keep us vigilant as we guard the frontiers of freedom.
Give our leaders the wisdom and the strength to lead well.
Grant all of us courage and confidence.
Be, for all of us, troopers, a wise counsel in keeping peace
and a strong shield for us against our enemies.
Oh heavenly Father, give us the determination
that the peace and freedom won at such a high price be lasting!
Father, hold all of the troopers in the palm of your almighty hand
and protect them in the shadow of your wings.
Amen.

Baghdad High School Receives Coalition Assistance
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Soldiers from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team recently delivered four truckloads of supplies valued at more than $23,000 to the Al-Eilaf girl's high school here.
The supplies included computers, a refrigerator, televisions and nearly a thousand square feet of new carpeting. Funding was arranged through the Neighborhood Advisory Council and the Coalition Provisional Authority.
"This is something very good for the students," said Abeer Saeed Rashid, the school's physical education teacher. "We were suffering. In the ex-regime, schools were supplied with nothing for 25 years."

Investigation of May 17th Incident
An investigation is currently under way to inquire into a May 17 incident in which a U.S. soldier shot and killed an Iraqi male in connection with an operation in Baghdad .
According to a source, the Iraqi was an anti-Iraqi forces operative who bragged to his neighbors about murdering a 1st Cavalry soldier at a checkpoint. This information subsequently led to a raid by Coalition forces, which went to the Iraqi's residence in Kamalaya, Baghdad.
It is reported that during the raid, the Iraqi attempted to grab the weapon of a U.S. soldier who shot and killed the subject. The details surrounding the shooting are under investigation.
Until the investigation is complete, it would be inappropriate to comment further.

U.S. Soldiers Help Recruit Iraqi Civil Defense Corps
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The 304th Iraqi Civil Defense Corps battalion recently ran a recruiting drive here with help from the 1st Cavalry Division's 5th Brigade Combat Team (BCT).
Charged with internal Iraqi homeland security, the ICDC is expected to eventually replace the Coalition forces that are currently providing security in Baghdad. The recruiting drive was part of 5th BCT's mission of training the ICDC to operate independently of the Coalition.
While previous recruiting drives were organized and managed by 5th BCT Soldiers, this time ICDC Soldiers ran the drive themselves. The 5th BCT Soldiers fell back into an advisory role, to ensure no preferences are given to specific families, tribes or religions.
"Here in ICDC they pay you, they feed us good food here on the camp [and provide] medical treatment," said Maj. Abdul Hamid Kais, the 304th ICDC battalion executive officer. "In the old army I worked for 15 years. I didn't have [air conditioning]. I didn't have a fan."
Kais said he believes the biggest attraction to the ICDC for a new recruit right now is the opportunity for a decent paycheck and steady work. Many recruits also say they are interested in joining to help build a new Iraq, he added.

Deployed Italians Aid Inhabitants of Dha Qar Province
AN NASIRIYAH, Iraq - The Italian Joint Task Force distributed humanitarian aid to the population of Al Hussein, a village located east of An Nasiriyah in the Dhi Qar province, on June 6.
The ITJF distributed 50 Kits for potable water, as well as clothing and personal hygiene products provided by the Italian Red Cross.
Commander of the IJTF, Brig. Gen. Dalzini, supervised the distribution of the humanitarian aid, which was supplied by the Italian Center For Civilian-Military Cooperation.
The Italian Soldiers have been warmly welcomed by the inhabitants of the village and their Sheik, who expressed his pleasure and thankfulness for the assistance the Italian contingent has been providing to the population in the Dhi Qar province.
The Sheik expressed, at the same time, his personal deep sorrow for the attack to an Italian CIMIC convoy that happened the previous day, saying that the same few citizens in Al Hussein village, who support Muqtada al Sadr, have firmly condemned this kind of event. Brig. Gen. Dalzini expressed, in return, his appreciation for the positive behaviour of the citizens of the village, stating the importance of good relationships between the Italian soldiers and the local Iraqi population.
In addition, the local children showed their appreciation by displaying the shirts with the embroidered "Italia", which were provided by the Italian Ministry for Sport and Welfare.
Thank you Italian soldiers
