Does it bollocks. The books aren't the literary masterpieces people make them out to be but they're certainly enjoyable reading and frankly anything that gets semi-literate children away from their playstations and reading can only be a good thing.
As for the movies the first two were pretty lack-lustre adaptations but the third (I freely admit I went to see it last week) was far better, getting rid of Chris Columbus and bringing in Alfonso Cuaron was an outstanding move on someones part.

I like the Harry Potter movies. I also plan on reading the books as soon as I can figure out how to pry them from my kids' hands...

Having read the books and seen the first film, I have to say it is pretty ****.
I agree with you on the 'getting away from the playstation' thing though.

"I have cunning plan my lord"
Harry Potter could be better if they put 1 second of **** in the film for every 5 seconds. They tried that in learning programs in school. The teachers "if that doesn't keep kids in school, what will?"

Well if JK keeps writing then soon the girl should be of legal age. :D
Yeah agree on the whole get kids reading thing but i still think the books are poor. Then and again i surprised myself by enjoying Wuthering Heights.

Allow me to interrupt with a serious question:
Do any of you guys ever think about the fact that the women in **** are somebody's daughters?
I mean, it's funny sometimes but would you want your daughter doing that?

rofl Yeah I've thought about that at times too. I mean, imagine being a father...browsing for some ****...seeing your daughter. Ouch. Or how are family reunions? "Hey dear niece, how's it going?" "****ing busy as ever!".

If i ever spawn a female version of myself then i'll be dammed if they start doing ****. Either i didn't do a goob job raising them as a child or they better be doing good quality videos. No but seriously i'd see it as a failure on my behalf if any child of mine went into ****.

How would it be a failure if your child enters in your footsteps? ;)

Dirty Harry vs Harry Potter :D
Dirty Harry would easily win as he has the .44 magnum, and some of the best qoutes in film history.

Show kids what really happened with the Messiah (and how gullable ppl were back then). And what really happened to King Arthur. And what the afterlife really is like.
