Syria to open embassy in Beirut

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad has issued a decree to set up diplomatic ties with Lebanon and open an embassy.

Anti-Syrian politicians in Lebanon and their Western backers have long called on Syria to recognise its sovereignty by establishing official ties.

The presidential decree did not say when the embassy would open in Beirut or give any further details. Syrian troops left Lebanon in 2005 ending years of military and political domination by the giant neighbour.

The decree announced "the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Syrian Arab Republic and the Lebanese Republic and the creation of a diplomatic mission at ambassador level in the Lebanese capital Beirut," Syria's official news agency reported.

It is time for you guys to decide whether you want diplomatic ties or not. When there was none of these, you guys used to insist on demanding Syria to establish that and on saying, Syria does not recognize us, and it does not want any diplomatic ties, and that diplomatic ties are the 1st step towards real relations etc..., then when Lebanon and Syria agreed on this and started working on the embassies, you started speaking about Anjar number 2, or that this won't change anything in the Syrian view towards/relation with Lebanon.

Personally, i cherish this move, it had to be done long ago, and I regard it as any other embassy in Lebanon.

Basically the location of the Embassy was selected also according to the news, and as I mentioned, the date of opening, November 22, are you wondering why that day??

Syria armed the labenese army in the 90's when no one else did.

Syria only came to lebanon due to corrupt politicians (who are currently anti-syrian) and due to foreign pressure.

syria also has killed thousands of lebanese . armed palistinain groups that raped lebanese of ever sect and murdered more lebanese in 1 week at damour then the entire 2006 war . syria holds more syrian prisoners in 1 cell then israel ever did . israel is my enemy until the lebanese goverment says otherwise but syria is also my enemy
