Aili Alina Benson, 91
WEST PARIS - Aili Alina Benson, 91, of West Paris, died June 6, 2004 at her residence with her loving family at her side.
She was born at Tuelltown, West Paris on April 24, 1913, a daughter of Renne and Sarah (Piikarainen) McKeen and attended local schools and graduated from West Paris High School Class of 1931.
She married Maurice G. Benson on June 28, 1931. He died on July 15, 1991. Aili was a homemaker all her life and was a member of Finish American Society and had volunteered many years for the Hospital Auxillary at Stephen's Memorial Hospital. She had also worked for the Oxford County Extension Services getting local children physicals and immunizations.
Aili loved her cats, was an avid beano player, loved to travel and did knitting and crocheting. Her family was her life.
She is survived by three daughters, Nancy McKellick and her husband, Al of South Paris, Maurise Veatch and her husband, James of West Paris and Marcia Benson of Saugus, Mass.; two brothers, Renne Rudolph McKeen of Mechanic Falls and Viekko McKeen of Wallingford, Conn.; five grandchildren; ten great-granddaughters; and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years; twin sons, Renne and Abner; a brother, Walter McKeen; Aili Alina Benson; a ½ brother, Edwin Heikkinen; and a sister, Hilja Polvinen.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Andrews Funeral Home, 64 Andrews Road, South Woodstock on Tuesday evening 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the West Paris Baptist Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bruce Tyner officiating. Burial will be in the Wayside Cemetery, West Paris.
I found out about her passing after the funeral on Wednesday - last night, actually. No one thought it worthwhile to inform me that my great-aunt had died.
It's sad that I don't even remember her.
Rest in peace, Auntie Aili.
