Hello everyone,

I'm currently working on a project and I'm needing some info and good pics if possible of some grenades used during the Vietnam War:

The M18 Smoke Grenades and the CS grenades.

Well it's easier to find info about the M18, following some research, Vietnam era-smokes have these markings and numbers.

M18 SMOKE RED 1701-9051
M18 SMOKE YELLOW 1701-9052
M18 SMOKE GREEN 1701-9053
M18 SMOKE VIOLET 1701-9054

But I haven't been able to find much about CS grenades, I saw some where you could read:

GAS CN-DM PB-2-68

Is this correct? can anyone help me on this? (remember I'm talking about Vietnam War grenades as used by LRRP's units, for example.)

Thank you.

Generally speaking US issue Grenades are marked:

Fragmentation(M26, M26A1, M33, M67): OD Body, Yellow Lettering, band

Impact Fragmentation(M69): OD Body, Yellow Band, Red Fuze and safety lever

Colored Smoke (M18): OD Canister, Lt Grey Band, lettering, Colored Top (Yellow, Red, Green, Violet)

White Smoke(AN-M8HC) Lt. Green Canister, White top, Black Lettering

White Phosphorus(M34A1) Lt. Green Body, Yellow band, Red Lettering

Thermite (AN-M14 TH3) Red Canister, Black Markings

Riot (M7A3CS) Lt. Grey Canister, Red Markings

Riot (ABC M25A2) Lt. Grey Body, Red Band & Markings

Grenades will carry a Designation, Model Number and Lot number.

Fuses will also be marked(ie: M202A1) and fuse body's tend to go with an Anodized green shade, Safety Levers can be anodized or painted.

Thank you Linedoggie, great help!

My doubt about the CS grenades has mainly been about the lettering, I was not sure if they red M7A3 RIOT CS because I remember seeing one with the following markings:

GAS CN-DM (model number and lot number)

Any clue about this?
