Subject: Marine EOD hit by IED. The following is from an e-mail about the Marine EOD team that was hit by an IED two days ago on their way to an incident.
To all,
Sgt Xxxxxx was driving. he was thrown out of the vehicle about 15 meters,
broken hand and arm in multiple places. Also received shrapnel wounds.
Being the senior man, I rode it out, it's about a 50 ft drop off that
bridge. I have a hole in my leg, hand and arm (all left side) from
shrapnel, the last of it was dug out this morning. We are both doing ok.
He was MEDEVAC'd to Baghdad to have pins put in, he will be back tomorrow
we think. It was 2 155mm (IED) that hit us about 1 meter away. Never found
the harden door on my side, his was found 50 meters from the truck. If
that wasn't enough, the bastards started shooting at us too. He was
unconscious, I tried to fire back but my M 16 was broken in half. When I
realized I wasn't shooting anything, I looked down and all I had was a
buffer spring and the upper receiver in my hand. I tried to draw my pistol
but my hand was so messed up from the round and hitting that bridge I
couldn't get it out of the holster so I just ran over to Xxxx and set beside
him until the security came. There was **** scattered all over that bridge,
explosives, caps, tools, the robot we just got back took it right in the
face again and the command box had a hole through it. Pisses Xxxxxx off
because now he has to replace it. But we are back in action after one day.
Never stops around here. Well, have a cold one for me, I needed one
yesterday. Xxxxx
