That world champions tag is looking a bit shakey :P .

I reckon the coaching and lineup changes are all for the better.....and the young ones due to come through in the next few years look bloody impressive.

The best part is the Poms get another pasting in Auckland next week........CAN'T WAIT

I ALSO hope the Wallabies win.....that way when the ABs play them in July at Wellington for the Tri-Nations opener it will be that much sweeter.

I like the new PR photo op......even if they should have been spending the time on the practice pitch...but I guess they need to sell 2004 AB merchandise

I can trace back to Captain Cook on mums side so I'm not sure if I can be classed as a convict. Then again Dads side is a bit more murkey so maybe the convict call isn't too far off the mark. :P

Not that I was old enough to remember the Falklands, but when I read about it I always go for the Brits, but rugby is different, it's definately Southern verses Northern. So go the Argies.

All Blacks steamroll world champions
By Claire Harvey
June 14, 2004
New Zealand 36 – England 3
WHEN it does not count, the All Blacks are the world's best rugby team.

On a night so cold that each player was followed by his own little cloud of steam, the New Zealanders humiliated world champions England at Carisbrook on Saturday night with a 36-3 thrashing. Fast, strong and brutal, the All Blacks displayed the kind of heartbreakingly good rugby which eluded them at last year's World Cup, making the English look slow, clumsy and generally hopeless.

Scoring three converted tries and five penalty goals, New Zealand also overcame the famously scary English scrummagers, a collection of individuals who seem more suited to refrigerating food than walking upright. Even through the whiteness of fog and steaming blokes at the stadium known at the "House of Pain" in the far south, the young and inexperienced All Black forwards could be seen forcing the England scrum to stumble backwards and at one point driving so hard that Clive Woodward's men ended up facing the wrong direction.

The world champions, suffering their first defeat by a Tri-Nations side in 13 games, could only manage a single penalty goal.

"Surprised? Yes, we are surprised," All Blacks coach Graham Henry said, smiling with the knowledge that victory meant vindication of the team's post-World Cup sackings of captain, coach and management.

"We went into the game tonight thinking it was going to be a hell of a game. Obviously, we are delighted."

An immense improvement in the All Blacks' lineouts and scrums was the key, Henry said.

"The set-piece performance by the All Blacks was outstanding. The forwards spent every minute of their waking time last week doing lineouts, or thinking about them, and the scrums, too."

Perhaps the English were tired from a long northern hemisphere season, Henry suggested. "These fellows have been playing rugby for a long time," he said. "I think they're starting to feel it's time to have a break, and you can understand that attitude. They'll learn from tonight, they'll get a real kick in the backside."

Woodward said his players, who missed dozens of tackles and dropped the ball regularly, seemed "very slow and lethargic. We just looked tired. We just looked not our usual self. I can't think of any positives to get out of that game, to be perfectly honest. We lost fair and square," Woodward said, adding the team would "take a good look in the mirror" and may make line-up changes before Saturday's second Test in Auckland.

The All Blacks forwards might have set things up, but the backs won the game. To start the match, England kicked the ball straight into the arms of winger Joe Rokocoko, who ran it 20 metres up the field, dodging three tackles in a warning of what was coming.

That was the first English mistake, and there were dozens more, including dropped balls by fullback Josh Lewsey, failed kicks for touch by winger Ben Cohen, punches thrown by second-rower Simon Shaw and attempts to interfere with the All Blacks' lineout jumpers.

The worst misjudgment came when South African referee Jonathan Kaplan awarded the English a penalty only 20 metres out, then reversed his decision after some cheeky backtalk from Cohen, later described as "stupid" by his coach. The All Blacks' tries came from five-eighth Carlos Spencer, Rokocoko and winger Doug Howlett, complementing eight perfect kicks at goal by inside centre Daniel Carter.

England recovered in the second half to prevent any more All Blacks tries, but the English players were not prepared to use tiredness as an excuse. "A result like that hurts. It cuts you deep," outside centre Mike Tindall said. "The title of world champions – it doesn't mean anything any more."

"We got caught napping in the first half," Shaw said.

"There is a lot of talk about fatigue, but it's a mental factor and you've got to get excited when you come down here and play against some of the best players in the world," Lewsey said.

Well i'll put it this way. The kids grow up. They leave home and strike out on their own. They still remember their heritage and where they came from but they mature and do they're own thing. The parents don't allways approve and it might seem a little ungrateful but at the end of the day the kids got to make their own way.

yeah and jenson button won formula ford or formula 3000 and go-karting championships, they all start somewhere. F1 only takes the best drivers in the world so they have to proove themselves somewhere. Or where you suggeating that he's gone down a notch after winning Indy 500?

what? you'd rather win now than in the world cup?

Wiining is winning.

fair enough, I'd rather lose a friendly then against australia in the world cup like you guys did

she has no say in our affairs she's still the one that represents Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Kiwis at the D-day memorials, a job she does rather well, and you still rather disown her?

Well i'll put it this way. The kids grow up. They leave home and strike out on their own. They still remember their heritage and where they came from but they mature and do they're own thing. The parents don't allways approve and it might seem a little ungrateful but at the end of the day the kids got to make their own way.

Lunch time.

Gawd, if the kiwis cut their ties with the motherland, that means Australia has to baby sit the wee little country (didn't you chaps kill off your air force?).

Being a republic sounds all nice and dandy but one day it might bite us all in the arse.

Monarchists unite. p-)

True that. But we beat you last weekend and this saturday will be no different no matter what excuses are put forward.

You make it sound like Britain is the only thing keeping us going, how do you figure that?. You don't provide for our defence, you don't prop our economy up, about all you do these days is provide targetry for our forward pack. Its interesting but from the way you write its almost as if you think we should be grateful.....

Not necessary when we have that big, fat, juicy target sitting to our north ready to soak up any **** coming our way.

Absolutely not -- F1 is the pinnacle of racing.

I'm voting for V8 supercars being the pinacle of motor sport, and Ford drivers being better than Holden drivers.

The Kiwi's don't need a Airforce, as long as they can show up with some Infantry and Arty if/when the s#*t hits the fan we will be happy.

Whoops..missed that one

NO...what I was suggesting is that it's MORE difficult to move from Indy to F1, than F1 to Indy.....history speaks for itself......Andretti, Fittipaldi,Mansell, et cetera all kicked ass.....in the other direction we've had Indy's Michael Andretti(son of Mario) single handedly knock out an entire F1 starting grid in 93.

And Scott Dixon has the best chance to break the bad mojo.

I guess that makes the UK the mentally incontenent grandparent ;)

It's like "watchable Nascar"......as it actually requires drivers to turn in BOTH directions ;)

The Aussie "air support" is much appreciated.....and needed

Tut tut - a lot of unsporting behaviour off field it seems :) . Going back to the Rugby, we got beat soundly because we were not good enough - simple. I'm bit of a die hard England supporter ( then the Scots, Welsh, Irish, Kiwis and Aussies - and in that order ) and fair doos, we were crap and deserved panning. We want to realise that no bugger has a right to expect to win in rugby, sort our lives out and get back into the game. As for some of the name calling - always concious of the fact that the Aussies and Kiwis picked up the tab for the UK in quite a few punch ups as recently as the Falklands. So well played, you deserved it.

F1 really isn't a race anymore, since that bloody cheating kraut keeps winning over and over again. Because he has the better car.

It's a not a sport of driving skills anymore, it's which can come up with the better car.

Surely that has always been part and parcel of motor sport and is why they have the constructors championship as well as the drivers championship.

It was a race for both Constructors AND drivers. Now it's just constructors. A real drivers championship would be where all the drivers used the same car. But of course that wouldn't happen.

I still think it's a race, just that it's a race for second place. let schumacher have his records, then he'll piss off to into retirement sooner.
