18 October 2007 - Thales announces the launch of MINIE, the new night vision goggle for infantry soldiers. The new product is developed by the company’s specialist subsidiary, Thales Angénieux. MINIE combines a compact and lightweight design, offering a reduction in weight of 30% with current products, whilst improving optical performance by 20%. MINIE can be integrated in any infantry systems and recent field trials have demonstrated that this latest addition to the Thales range of optronic products is a perfect match for the operational requirements of future infantry soldiers.

As well as advanced ergonomics that make it the most compact and lightweight night vision goggle on the market, MINIE offers unparalleled optical performance. With image quality superior to high-definition television, MINIE gives infantry soldiers an exceptionally clear picture of the surrounding environment.

Added to night vision, its patented video display system lets users access external information such as map data or weapon sight imagery.

Philippe Parain, Chairman & CEO of Thales Angénieux: "MINIE is the result of our design team’s world-class expertise in high-precision optics and our close understanding of the actual operational requirements of land forces on the ground. This new goggle combines comfortable and intuitive operation with ultra-reliability, further consolidating our position as the European leader in night vision capabilities."

Thales Angénieux is recognised throughout the world for its expertise in the design and manufacture of optical systems and has sold more than 45,000 night vision goggles to date. These products are renowned for their compact and lightweight design and exceptional service reliability.

if it's a monocular why cover both eyes? i've used pvs-7's and the monocular pvs-14's which only cover one eye and much prefer having one eye exposed.

I thought the same. It must be a hindrance, particularly if the goggle is suddenly blinded by bright light.

thanks for sharing.
so it's a bi-scopic monocular. even though there are two displays, there's only one night vision tube, in which case you're not getting a truly stereoscopic image therefore you don't get any sense of depth perception.
is this part of a french future warrior program? i which case is the second screen used to display data?

that battery pack looks xbox huge. it must have some information tx/rx capability.

I've used Thales Lucie and its pretty impressive and works on the same bi-ocular priciple. There is a monocluar called Monie which is pretty good too.

I like the way this setup doesn't stick out a foot in front. What model do the US infantry use?
