Iraqi Kidnappers Kill Lebanese Hostage

Saturday June 12, 2004 5:01 PM

BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) - Iraqi gunmen kidnapped three Lebanese in Iraq and killed one of them, a Lebanese Foreign Ministry official said Saturday.

Hussein Ali Alyan, a Shiite Muslim from southern Lebanon who worked in construction, was tortured and killed in ``grisly circumstances'' and his body dumped on a road near Baghdad, the official said.

Alyan was kidnapped separately from the two other abducted Lebanese, identified as Habib Samour and Roger Haddad. Haddad was released, but Samour was still held by his kidnappers, the official said.

It wasn't clear when the Lebanese were abducted or by whom. The official did not elaborate on the motive other than to say it was financial, not political, in all three cases.

The Lebanese Foreign Ministry was working to secure Samour's release, the official said.

In recent months, hundreds of Lebanese businessmen, mainly contractors and industrialists, have gone to Iraq to explore opportunities in the country's postwar reconstruction.

This should be a wake up call to those in the mid east that are under the delusion that Al-q is fighting a war on their behalf.Al-q is pursuing an angenda, and anyone who they see as an obstacle to that agenda will be killed be you muslim or not

indeed. By attacking people from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Lebanon, Iraq, ect. Al Queda is merely alienating itself and showing that they are only out for themselves and not for their "islamic" beliefs.

They are fighting for their Islamic beliefs, a perverted form of Wahabism which denounces the type of secular governments found in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia. Bin Laden was an exponent of attacking Saddam during the first GulfWar (but not necessarily of America doing so). They see those governments as apostate slaves to the US with whom they are in collusion to subjugate muslims. They are fundamentalist pricks who, while fighting for their religious beliefs, are not fighting for most Muslim's religious beliefs.
Besides, its unlikely that the guys who did it are actually trained AlQaeda operatives. Analysts have suggested that there may be some ideological affinities and loose ties of convenience with AQ, but that most groups in Iraq are a disparate pack of unorganised and poorly trained insurgents/rebels/terrorists, or whatever word you choose to use, who are intent on making life hard for the coalition while working towards whatever poltical end they may have chosen. AlQaeda is singled out far more than the reality on the ground warrants.

I'd have to agree with you there. AQ is about the only terrorist group's name that the average person knows. Who knows how many different groups are in Iraq and what their backgrounds are; these groups are just taking advantage of a chance to attack America and (what they see as) American interests in their own backyard.
