I like Shrek very much, I'm not entirely sure of it's message though. Most people think it's about loving someone regardless of how they look on the outside, but that were true why did Princess Fiona have to be an Ogre in order to be with Shrek? Afterall, she wasn't born an Ogre. I think it's more of a "stick with your own kind" message for that reason. Ogre's should be with ogre's and humans should be with humans.
Anywho, I was talking to a pregnant pal at work about this and she started crying... apparently she decided on a Shrek theme for her babies room and I wasn't aware of it.
oops.

I thought the moral was, its better to stay the way you are. And not to look at someone from the outside but from the inside.
But what do i know. Im just an un-emotional 18year old male.

That sort of what I was getting at. Being happy with yourself and others based on what's inside. Still, I wasn't sure why Fiona had to be transformed into an Ogre just to be with Shrek. I think that worked against the intended message.

I suppose not, but most "children's" movies do.
From the official DreamWorks SKG site: "The heart of the story is found in what could be called-in the language of all fables-the moral of the story. Vicky Jenson relates, "The story is about self-acceptance and that things aren't always as they appear. We definitely turn the concept of beauty on its ear, which I think is a very powerful theme."

When they are introducing everyone.
"This is Deja Vu."
"Haven't we met before?"
Or something like that.
"I don't know any German."
"I know a little German. He's right over there."
That movie is amazing. It's hilarious that Val Kilmer started out in movies like this and Real Genius (is that the right title, the one where he's the genius at a tech university?) and now is considered such a "serious" actor.
I don't know about anyone else, but I have a real hard time deciding which are my favourites, but this is what comes to mind right now.
Action: The Killer (John Woo movie with Chow Yun Fat, HK movie) and Aliens (while a SF movie, that's really just a disguise for kick-@$$ action)
Adventure: Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Last Crusade (Temple of Doom was alright, but doesn't stack up against the other two)
Comedy: Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail, though Clerks and Office Space are right up there. I'm guessing Get Shorty is pretty much a comedy as well. Hmmm, difficult to decide.
Crime/Gangster: Goodfellas, Snatch, Usual Suspects
Epic: Spartacus, Gladiator (even Ben-Hur, sucker for Roman epics)
Historical: Rob Roy, Brotherhood of the Wolf (though not really historical, I'm not sure where else to put it. Is historical-romance-horror-martial arts a genre?)
Drama: Henry V (Kenneth Branagh's version)
Horror: Alien, Army of Darkness (though pretty much a comedy)
Science Fiction: This is the toughest category, so I'll break it down. Serious SF: Blade Runner; Space Opera: Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back (things started going downhill with RotJ); SF/Adventure: ST2: Wrath of Khan and ST6: the Undiscovered Country; Superhero SF: X-Men
War: Band of Brothers (for action and story) and Black Hawk Down (which is pretty much pure action with story for window-dressing)
Westerns: Again, another tough one. Spaghetti: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly; Idealized Western: Silverado; Post Modern: Unforgiven; Action/ Adventure Western: Tombstone.
Fantasy: LotR: Fellowship of the Ring (which is my favourite of the trilogy, though all three are awesome) and Excalibur
This, of course, will change tomorrow.
Take care all.

You might know about it, but they just released the sequel to Pitch Black in theaters the other day, called The Chronicles of Rid****. Not a horror film, but more of an action/epic I suppose with Rid**** as the main character. Haven't seen it myself, but it was supposed to be pretty good and I think they might have another sequel in the works.

I plan on seeing it, I've been hearing about it forever. I don't know if this will have the same feel as PB. The first one had a smaller, more honest feel to it. I just hope the sequel isn't some overblown, SFX-laden blowhard, like (god forbid) XXX.

Yes Molly, XXX was so bad I was tempted to ask for my money back from the rental store, after I watched it I spent the rest of the evening wondering what I could have done with the time instead. :)
The nerve gas carrying speed boat at the end was like something of Saturday morning kids TV time.

I used to think he was cool, back when he was in 'Saving Private Ryan' and he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in his own movie, but everything he seems to touch now turns into pure crap. 'A Man Apart,' anyone?

He's actually not all that stupid of a guy even though he certainly seems like it given some of the movies he's been in (the funniest thing I find is that he talks with a bit of a lisp if you've ever seen an interview). The Chronicles of Rid**** definitely isn't a "small" movie like Pitch Black (which was also a pretty low budget; this one has a budget over $100 million) but it's aiming to be more of a huge-scale epic with an entire mythology and universe surrounding it. Basically, Vin Diesel is trying to flesh out everything as much as possible with an animated movie that takes place right after Pitch Black, the Chronicles series, and a video game that has him escaping from a prison before Pitch Black.
