If he wins re-election he must resign to serve his prison sentence. If so, Gov. Palin will need to appoint someone to finish his term.

You've got to be kidding. Not about the resigning part, but winning re-election. He's a convicted felon, the fact that his name isn't taken off the ballot is downright embarrassing. If he gets re-elected, that will be a dark day for Alaska.

Like it or not, he's been good for Alaskans. Especially the earmarks.

Yeah, especially that bridge.
No offense, but I'm just against earmarks on principle.

In any case, this puts the spotlight back to Gov. Palin.

Not a good week for McCain.

Wasn't this guy already pretty much busted? Why the huge blaring of the orchestra now?

Yeah, but this was one of those annoying legal formalities known as a trial.

Well then, why don't we find Edwards guilty of adultery, formally, with nothing to do at all with the Obama campaign? Yes we can.

Last I checked, adultery isn't a crime, but corruption is.

Other then that, what are you trying to say? The timing of the trial was deliberate in order to help Obama?? Besides from this happening in Alaska and Palin being the Gov. of Alaska, what does it have to do with Obama?

This is a big deal because Stevens is one of the most senior and powerful Senators. Moreover, he's been involved in politics since the Eisenhower Administration.

His chances were over when he filed for mistrial. He needed a clean bill of health to have any hope of re-election.

Stevens' conviction hinged on the testimony of Bill Allen, the senator's longtime drinking and fishing buddy. Allen, the founder of VECO, testified that he never billed his friend for the work on the house and that Stevens knew he was getting a special deal.

Be careful with whom you choose to drink and fish.

Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

No one is above the law. He can now join the panoply of elected officials sent to the steel bar hotel for malfeasance and misfeasance during office.

I suppose he thought he'd never get caught and if he did his connections would clam up. Sounds like he was wrong and convicted on all counts.

Adios, pendejo.

If they sentence him quickly - he could be back in the Senate after resigning, getting a Presidential pardon from Bush, and then reappointed by Gov. Palin.
