U.S. lawyer gains access to Gitmo's secret 'Camp 7'
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba - A U.S. navy commander will be the first defence lawyer to enter an ultra-secret section of Guantanamo for prisoners who were held by the CIA.
A military judge has ruled that Navy Cmdr. Suzanne Lachelier may inspect parts of "Camp 7" as she prepares her defence for one of the men charged in the Sept. 11 attacks.
In Monday's ruling, the judge did not grant permission for a defence psychologist to see the camp.
Lachelier is the lawyer for Ramzi Binalshibh. He's charged with murder and war crimes and could get the death penalty if convicted.
Lachelier said Tuesday that Binalshibh is mentally ill.
She wants to see if conditions in the camp are affecting his condition and his ability to co-operate with his lawyers.

It would not be surprising at all if he is mentally ill after being tortured for an extended period of time at GITMO.
And before anyone angrily responds to my post, I'm not talking physical torture. Mental torture, via sensory deprivation.
When the prisoners get there they are hooded or have blackout goggles. Then after being left in isolation cells for extended periods of time (Months long), they are taken out to have their senses bombarded with barking dogs, strobe lights, endless loops of tapes, music blaring, ect. All this can cause total regression.

Despict what they have done, we have no rights to torture them. This doesn't make us any better than our enemy.

Mentally ill would be a case the lawyer can try to press. But then your definition of mentally ill and what a number of psychologists may define might be drastically different.
Sensory deprivation isn't what you just described by the way. Isolation is one thing but that is social deprivation. Of course thats something that many criminals already go through..and on a regular basis. The rest of what you describe happens to me every day I go to work.

Ramzi Binalshibh is alleged to have been part of the 9/11 plot, and after leaving his AQ training camps, repeatedly applied for flight schools in the US. When rejected, he functioned as an intermediary between Atta in the United States and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in Afghanistan.
Since the visit won't enable Cmdr. Lachelier to tell whether he became a bat-sh*t crazy psychotic killer before or after entering US custody, maybe she should go spend some time at some fundamentalist camps along the Pakistan border. I'm sure they serve culturally sensitive meals there like we do at Gitmo.

He believe in a guy who is up in the sky and wants him to blow up civilians so he can get to heaven and **** some virgins.
NO **** HE IS MENTALL ILL, HELLO ? Every religious person can use that "mentally ill" excuse.
