JERUSALEM (AP) - Israel soldiers are using wild animals, including protected species, for target practice, the Israeli Nature Reserves Authority has charged, according to a soldiers' weekly magazine.

The nature watchdogs have complained to the army about soldiers using their weapons for hunting, as well as shooting at wild animals for sport and practice, the weekly Bamahane reports in its current issue.

The magazine quoted nature reserves officials as saying that the captain of an Israeli missile boat was seen shooting birds out of the sky off the coast of the Gaza Strip six months ago.

The authorities received dozens of complaints each year about soldiers shooting animals, the article said, but few soldiers are disciplined.

An official said the practice is widespread, stretching from one end of the country to the other.

One soldier was caught after killing a deer on the Golan Heights and sent to prison. The Golan deer are considered an endangered species.

Several military commanders quoted in the article denied knowledge of the problem but pledged to discipline soldiers who are caught firing at animals.

I saw a show on Animal Planet or Discovery channel a while ago, where they were showing how they rounded up large animals in some game reserve in South Africa (rhinos, buffalo, deer etc.) Pilot would fly a chopper close to the animal and South African army snipers in the chopper would fire a tranquilizer dart. This way, the game rangers would be able to move the animal safely, while the snipers got some practice.

Did you know that after the Six Day War in 1967 there were no deers at all in the Golan Hights (which was under Syrian rule until that time)?

The deers which live in the Golan originated from some 500 deers which were brought by the Israeli authorities to the Golan in 1970. In 1985 the deer population was over 5000 deers(!)

Sadly today there are less than 300 deers living in the Golan.

We had a soldier that used to shot his rifle just for fun (and not on animals-empty Cola bottles ). He got cought by an officer . He still serves his time in jail . Simple as that .

My problem with the initial article of this thread is the generalization terms such as the use of the words "Israeli soldiers use animals etc.." where in reality its a mere few and it is not a widespread practice in the IDF and certainly not a official policy that is used by units in the IDF

Their langue would be like me saying U.S. Air Force personal are raping women or like saying Canadian soldiers are beating up Somalia prisoners etc when in reality it is a mere handful and should be phrased as such (like using the words like, "handful", "a mere few" "individual" "some" etc...).

I always laugh when I hear other soldiers from other nations complain about their MRE’s, when we are stuck with our meat in a can (something that some refer to as "kosher spam”) that is our delicacy that we are offered.

(Not to mention knowing the fact that a few years back, I ate out a can of meat that had a date printed 1982 on it :| ….didn’t realize meat can last that long :roll: )

About farting, how bad the smell is when someone farts inside a tank? And what do you do to get rid of the smell?

I can't answer for tanks, but for APC's it stays in for quite a while. Best way to beat it is to open up the tourist hatches, breathe through your mouth and cuss each other out so you forget the stench.
The periodical smell of eight squaddies pumped up on field rations and bread is well and truly revolting in the back of a 2x3 enclosed, armored and NBC sealed space... I reckon tanks go for pretty much the same. :lol:

Yea .... It kills everybody . If you are a driver or a gunner , you can turn your ventilator (every crue member has one), and sufficate entire crue of the turret (on driver case) , or sufficate the commander and the loader (on gunner case) . The problem with turning on the vent is , that your fart flies back on your face , and for couple of seconds you have to breeth concentrated fart -that's not that bad sence it's your own . Commander can fart on the head of the gunner , make him him sufficate to death , and the loader can fart and hope he did it strong enough . Usually to acheave the best farting quality , one should drink "Shoko" (IDF chocolate milk) and eat some army "Humus" afterwards (If you are brave enough) . Excellent fart quality will come after that . The best thing is , you can't run from the fart . In the end , every crue members know the fart taste if each other , and trying to produce excellent farting qualities on each other .
Another excellent point is , that on very cold nights in winter farting actually worms the insides of the uniforms . Same goes for sleeping bag . It's also adding that special aroma of yours , keeping you awake and functional on nights .

The nasty thing to do for crue members , and no one will aprove that , is to take off the socks after wearing them for a week , without taking the boots off . This have devastating impact on crue moral . Infact , my favorite was to take off my socks , and place them on my ventilator . This made excellent quality stench inside the turret , and some crue members almost puked from that . This one is not welcome by the crue , and it will not get excepted with laughs . It's best to do it with a crue thatyou don't like .

The jaguar was old thats why it had started taking goats and a 3rd world villager can't afford to lose goats or that keen having a jag hang around there homestead. but even so its a big cat nobody much fancied the idea of tracking it in a jungle. would'nt begin to guess what sort of weapon you use for big game hunting but an M16 is not it :( . My dad used to go pigeon hunting with a pair of captured Browning HP's from the Falklands out in the sticks up in Scotland. Also used to throw bread out for seagulls out on the ranges, then let fly with a few GPMG's. Not much left of the seagulls, mind you.
