Hasanali Khoja objected to handling pork while working as a chef for the Met

A Muslim chef employed by the Metropolitan Police is suing for religious discrimination after he was asked to cook sausages and bacon for '999 breakfasts'.

Hasanali Khoja accuses Scotland Yard of refusing to guarantee that he would not have to handle pork, which is forbidden in Islam.

He said it was suggested he wear gloves when cooking pork products.
The 60-year-old claims the problem began when he was asked to move from his position as senior catering manager at Hendon Police College in North London, where he had been excused from touching pork.

In his new role at the Empress State Building in West London, which is occupied by Metropolitan Police staff, he was expected to make '999 breakfasts' consisting of sausage, bacon and black pudding.

The meal got its nickname because it is traditional for officers to insist on hearty fry-ups before starting their shift.

Mr Khoja, who joined the Met in 2005, said he was placed on special unpaid leave for a year after refusing to work without the guarantee he would not have to handle pork.

He is now back at work at another Met building where he does not have to handle pork but has been downgraded to higher catering manager.

Mr Khoja, from Edgware, North London, said yesterday: 'I felt very unhappy about it. I was very upset and angry because it is not permissible in my religion. I was threatened that management would sack me if I did not follow instructions. But I never enrolled to cook pork. I refused to do it. I never did it and I never would.

'I had a letter from the human resources department saying that I would not be required to cook any pork. But this was not exactly what I wanted as a guarantee. The Met has shown no sensitivity towards my religion. Their response has been illthought and discriminatory.'

He added: 'My original contract did not include any kind of cooking. I was hired as a senior catering manager.

'I protested at the move and at having to cook pork. I was placed on paid special leave for a year. No Muslim in my position should have to face such harassment.'

Mr Khoja, who also sits on a Foods Standards Agency advisory committee on Muslim issues, is taking the Met to an employment tribunal which is expected to be heard next May.

An informal agreement was reached in June excusing him from handling pork but Mr Khoja, who began his claim last year, wants it to be formalised.

His case is the latest in a string of race discrimination rows to engulf the Met in recent months, which contributed to the resignation of Sir Ian Blair.
Britain's most senior Muslim officer, Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur, has accused the force of racial discrimination and the National Black Police Association has urged people from ethnic minorities not to join.

Mr Khoja was originally represented by Dr Shahrokh Mireskandari, the controversial lawyer at the centre of the race war, but changed solicitors in August.

His current lawyer Khalid Sofi said there was an 'important issue of principle at stake in Mr Khoja's case'.

'He has genuine and strong religious beliefs and expects that they will be accommodated,' he added.

'The Met is a very large organisation and could easily have met his
demands.

'Mr Khoja's case raises the general question of the Met accommodating the needs of the Muslim community at a time when there is a lack of confidence in the police among Muslims.'

Mr Khoja is being supported by the Association of Muslim Police.
The Met denies Mr Khoja's claim of religious discrimination.

Is there a pattern here?

The lawyer at the centre of the race row engulfing Scotland Yard apart is a convicted conman with suspect legal qualifications, it has emerged.

Dr Shahrokh Mireskandari - who acts for Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur - has a criminal conviction for a telemarketing scam in the US in 1991, according to reports today.

There are also doubts over his qualifications.

According to the Daily Mail he is said to have obtained his law degree from a discredited 'mail drop' university in Hawaii.

Mr Mireskandari, who qualified to practice law in the UK in 2000, was sentenced by a California court to do three months community service and ordered to pay back nearly $7,000 to victims after he pleaded guilty to a charge related to consumer fraud, it was reported.

The newspaper also revealed that he is currently at the centre of a worldwide inquiry into his past by the UK solicitors' watchdog.

Mr Mireskandari represents Mr Ghaffur, the most senior Muslim officer in the Metropolitan Police and 2012 Olympics security chief, who was suspended over his own race discrimination claims.

He also represents the Met's head of diversity Yasmin Rehman, who is reported to be set to launch an employment tribunal claiming she has suffered racist bullying and victimisation.

Iranian-born Mr Mireskandari is head of the firm Dean & Dean.

Mr Mireskandari or anyone from the firm was not immediately available for comment today.

Jesus christ, this is about as bad as that guy that sued after he wrecked his RV because "the manual didn't say you couldn't leave the driver seat while operating the vehicle." Seriously I get the whole pork thing but comeon....people in Iraq aren't even that bad. (yes, I do know from experience)

If he disclosed that to the Law Society, no problem. If he didnt, BIG PROBLEM. He better hope he did. If he did not, he will be struck off.

If you come clean and say, hey, I lost my way, since then I've been into Mohammed, Jesus, Yahweh, Buddha....they'll usually let you in. But if you fail to disclose, then you are firetrucked.

Mail drop crapola university is no big deal either. You just have to convince them you should be allowed to take the admission exams, and if they let you, then the fact your degree is crap has no bearing on things.

So in short - he is only in trouble if he didnt tell the Law Society about his conviction. Otherwise, business as usual.

Hi There.
Does this mean that soldiers who deployed on Granby who were told to remove crosses and othe things will be allowed to sue the muslim world for religious discrimination. Also does this mean that soldiers in the ME now can claim for not being allowed a beer or girlie mag. C'mon, we could all claim some form of discrimination. Grow up you moneygrabbing p*g.

In January 2007, a Muslim female police cadet refused to shake the hand of former Scotland Yard cheif Sir Ian Blair at her passing out ceremony because it was against her faith to touch a man who was not her husband or close relative.

rofl I'd love to see her make an arrest on the streets...

I donīt think he has a real reservation about the number of meals he was ordered to cook because itīs the number in disguise of his boss.

It only remains the question of why he opted for the job in the first place if the pork is not strange in the local diet...

First "integrate" and then change by the force of the numbers and the threats?

Islamo-nazism.

You know who's to blame for all this bullsh*t? The British people themselves. Why they don't say "enough is enough", and treat these people like the spoiled children they are is beyond me.

I have a feeling that the backlash is coming soon in the UK. This is just going way beyond comprehension to me. When it happens, I don't think it will be pretty either.

I'm afraid thats true. Any protest was stifled under the "racism" label and leftwing willingness to compromise for votes
Will there be a backlash - very much doubt it. The problems too big for any serious party to dare touch, which leaves right wing nutjobs that most people wouldnt vote for.

I remember when I was stationed in the UK in the late 80s I was watching a program on BBC where this Nigerian mother was screaming at a school official that she wanted her child to be served African food for school lunch. She was really giving this one school official a real hard time, and he just sat at his desk and calmly listened to her rantings. I would've slapped the bitch if she got in my face like that.

I really liked my tour of duty in England. Sad to see this all happening.

As I understand it, a rant is to speak or write in a loud pompous angry extravagant or violent manner for a prolonged period. Spot on there lads. But when the sign on the door says 'Latest political discussions and rants' it gives the impression it is discussions , as in, considered and earnest discussions about politics and rants (see above) about politics that one will find here. But this anti-Islamic stuff or anti-immgirant stuff, whatever it is, is not in any way realted to politics. It is a rant, I admit. But should the sign be changed to, 'Latest political discussions and rants about Islam.'

Personally I feel the guy is a chancer and he is just using his religion as an excuse to get a few bob, and he wouldn't be the first chancer to take a frivilous lawsuit for money, would he. Why would he be working for the Metropolitan Police in the first place if he were a serious and strict muslim? I would say he had already developed a working relationship with pork. Pass the soy sauce Hasanali.

Because that would mean admitting they were racist nazi islamophobes. And anything is better than that. Even the destruction of their own country, values, laws and institutions.

Used to be that you would go down the constructive dismisal route now it seems its the cultural / religion ticket that does it. Just a wee heads up to Wardancer and Ariha, some of your lot also pull the religion / cultural stuff in the workplace over here, the Hebrew speaking diamond chopping dudes at one place I know demanded a canteen of their own and there was only 5 of them.
