View Full Version : Track The Promises

Now that Obama has won and I commend him on his win and turning voter support, we need to make sure he holds true on his campaign promises since it is these promises that got him elected.
So here are the big ones that I see:
1. Tax cut for working families:
Obama and Biden will restore fairness to the tax code and provide 95 percent of working Americans the tax relief they need. They will create a new "Making Work Pay" tax credit of up to $500 per person, or $1,000 per working family.
2. Provide tax relief for small businesses and startups:
Obama and Biden will eliminate all capital gains taxes on startup and small businesses to encourage innovation and job creation.
3. Fight for fair trade:
Obama and Biden will fight for a trade policy that opens up foreign markets to support good American jobs. They will use trade agreements to spread good labor and environmental standards around the world.
4. 16 Month Phased Withdraw From Iraq
Immediately upon taking office, Obama will give his Secretary of Defense and military commanders a new mission in Iraq: ending the war. The removal of our troops will be responsible and phased, directed by military commanders on the ground and done in consultation with the Iraqi government. Military experts believe we can safely redeploy combat brigades from Iraq at a pace of 1 to 2 brigades a month that would remove them in 16 months. That would be the summer of 2010 – more than 7 years after the war began.
Those who have read my posts know I'm a conservative but in the vein of unity, let's do our civic duty to make sure that he holds true on these promises.
After watching his speech last night, I start to get concerned when he makes statements like this:
"..the road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term."
Whatever the case is, we know politicians whether Red or Blue are known to lie. Let's keep them honest.

CPLHUNTER I agree. I believe personally that it is a tragic thing that has happened, and due to the 9% he had on McCain, I'm pretty certain that we are STUCK with him.
Now that's a fact that I'm sure is pissing us all of, but we have all survived worse (see that is a HOPE state ment rofl).
I believe that we all lucked out with the fall of the DC gun ban. I also believe that we have more time than people think to store up on things that are probably going to cost a LOT more.
Lets make sure to bitch as much as they did about Bush, and to not let up on what he SAID he will do.
I just hope that the ignorance of several is not enough to **** us all over, but if it does at least we know that we can pick up the pieces, yes we can!

The bar is certainly low. Kind of like Reagan in that regard. After Watergate and Carter Reagan didn't need to do much to be better. The fact that Reagan actually was a great leader was a bonus. Hopefully the same will be true with Obama.

Many conservatives are upset that the GOP became big spenders so logically we should abandon all of their candidates and support the party of even bigger spenders.

Scares me? No, but it does concern me. It's not a healthy thing for this country. For Obama to implement even half of what he wants, we will have to borrow even more. I can't support that. I support a cut in spending followed by a cut in taxes.
The Homeland Security thing?

I don't think she's crazy at all. In fact if you actually look at her record in Alaska, she's been very practical and has clashed with both parties which are horribly corrupt. That's something Obama never did while in Chicago.
I'm not an economist by any stretch but I seriously don't see how the "tax and spend" thing still only applies to the Dems.
It doesn't which is why the GOP lost so much favor among conservatives. But as a matter of degrees, the Democrats are still much worse. Obama-Reid-Pelosi will make Bush look like a cheap-ass.

Reality is people who hate him will most likely continue to hate him no matter how he does. Only some will be man enough to admit they were wrong, if in fact they are wrong.
But what will most likely happen is he will be nowhere near as bad as they fear, and he won't be the messiah the supporters expect either. Poeple need to be realistic, hes handed the worst situation since like 1930's. There's only so much you can do in such a short time.
