beat takeshi is an amazing writer, actor, and director.
regarding zatoichi, i strongly suggest seeing the 26 films that precede the latest installement. shintaru katsu's performance as ichi is beyond belief: he owned the screen. also catch katsu in hanzo the rasor for a totally different cinematic experience.
