Harare - Zimbabwe's central bank chief says ordinary Zimbabweans are to blame for the country's crippling inflation.

Reserve Bank Governor Gideon Gono is quoted in The Sunday Mail, a state-owned newspaper, as saying inflation is due to what he calls a "collective failure as a nation" to produce enough, particularly food. He calls on Zimbabweans "to actively play a part in producing for the nation."

Zimbabwe's inflation rate is officially 231 million percent, the highest in the world.

Government orders to seize white-owned farms starting in 2000 disrupted the economy of what had been the region's breadbasket. The farms were to have gone to poor blacks, but many went to ruling party loyalists. Agricultural production has plummeted. Today, Zimbabwe faces a hunger crisis.

I think that the Central Bank Chief is already discredited...or was that debited? What is the latest inflation figure? Do we have a number that high?

Wow......just wow.....

That's like a thief blaming the victims of his theft for not having more stuff to steal.

What if anything, besides China, is keeping Zimbabwe afloat?

It seems to defy the inevitabability of gravity like a hydrogen filled brick

What a joke that country is, i got a taxi on the weekend & the driver was a white farmer who had lost his farm & now living in OZ, he told us how they just showed up & attacked him & a few weeks he had enough & new he had to get out. He said his old farm is not producing a single things now.
