AK74 5.45 Mags?

What type of AK74 5.45 Mags do you recommend Polymer or Steel and by who and where can I find them?

never had a problem with either polymer, and rarely with steel( mostly bought from countries that no longer exist) i buy what evers cheapest.

I'm trying to give to him as a Christmas present so that's why I don't want to ask him. Which is Ironic because we wanted to by the Ak because the ammos cheap, well Yesterday he went and put a S&W M4 chambered in the 5.45 on layaway. I Don't want Cheap mags but I don't want very expensive Mags.

Ah. I'd say buy what's cheaper unless he's doing something that would need absolutely optimum performance. I use after market steel mags that the guy I bought from gave me with my mini-14 and rarely have problems with them. I'd say to see if you can try some in the rifle you're talking about but I see you're 16. So never mind.

I have seen those at a show and, the seller of the 5.45 upper told me standard AR mags will do being that the two were close in caliber. Im not sure if those uppers can take a russian mag since it still is really using a 5.56 AR-15
lower.

I would buy the RPK-74 but the barrel is to long, I kind of want it to be as maybe a Home Defense Rifle or a rifle I would take to a shhoting school. And $150-200 for 45 rounds hell No! I'll probably just buy the other 2 mainly the plum Izhmash. I think for christmas if the rifle doesn't come with 1 I'll buy 5 mags, If it does 4 Mags.

im confused. you were talking about ak74 and then you said your pop put a S&W AR on layaway. If you looking for mags for the S&W regular old GI 5.56 mags work. my buddy just picked up a 5.45 upper for his AR to save a little money when we go shooting. we got curious to see if the 5.45 fits in a 5.56 mag, and it does and it feeds fine except in Pmags.

The S&W was a whole different thing, I knew the S&W used AR mags, and I have a sh1t load of them about 40-50. All I was just trying to find out was which AK74 mags worked best in the AK74, whether it was Polymer or steel. The reason I threw the S&W out was I was trying to site the Irony of we were going to buy him an AK because the ammo was cheap and he didn't have a gun for that caliber, so we were going to buy him one for Christmas. Well a couple of days a go he tells me puts the S&W on layaway because he didn't have a gun chambered in the 5.45. And we have an 870 for home defense I was just throwing it out there that I want to have something just in case.
