Well... there are only that many ways to build a gun. If you want the mag to go through the grip, a retractable stock and a polymer construction, you're gonna end up with something that looks similar to the MP7 eventually.

Singapore has a long tradition of taking an established weapon system and making various adjustments & improvements, then marketing it as their own. Frankly, the MP7 is hardly the weapon I'd start with, but I'm sure they'll have a few customers.
