KABUL (*******) - Afghan rebels exploded a bomb near a German military vehicle in the northern province of Kunduz on Wednesday, killing at least four Afghans, including the driver and two children, officials said.
The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time, and the other victims were on the crowded road where the blast took place, they said.
The blast, possibly triggered by a remote control device, occurred near a vehicle belonging to the German-run Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT), they said. The PRT is under the overall command of NATO (news - web sites) forces.
"Initial reports indicate that four people have been killed in this explosion," General Mohammad Dawood, a senior military commander in Kunduz, told reporters. He said the incident was an act of sabotage.
Kunduz's governor' Mohmmad Omar said the explosive device was placed under a kiosk and did not rule out the possibility that the PRT car could have been the target of the blast.
