View Full Version : Clinton Calls Impeachment Battle 'Badge of Honor'
June 16, 2004 — By Larry Fine
NEW YORK (*******) - Former President Bill Clinton called his fight against impeachment a "badge of honor" and his affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky "morally indefensible" in a CBS television interview.
In the hourlong interview to air on CBS' "60 Minutes" on Sunday, two days before publication of his memoir, "My Life," Clinton said he was proud of his successful fight against impeachment, the network said in excerpts released on Wednesday.
"I didn't quit, I never thought of resigning and I stood up to it and beat it back," he said.
"The whole battle was a badge of honor. I don't see it as a stain, because it (the impeachment process) was illegitimate," added Clinton, who called the process "an abuse of power."
Clinton's 957-page memoir, published by Alfred A. Knopf, a division of Bertelsmann AG's Random House unit, hits bookstores next Tuesday. He was reportedly paid a $10 million advance for the book.
He told "60 Minutes" that high on his list of regrets was his affair with Lewinsky, which he called "a terrible moral error."
Clinton said his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and daughter, Chelsea, were able to overcome the effect of the revelation of the affair through counseling.
The former president said his wife, now a Democratic senator from New York, needed time with him to decide whether she would stay married to him.
"We'd take a day a week, and we did -- a whole day a week every week for a year, maybe a little more -- and did counseling," said Clinton. "We did it together. We did it individually. We did family work."
Clinton said there was no rational explanation for his adulterous behavior.
"I did something for the worst possible reason. Just because I could," the former president said. "I think that's just about the most morally indefensible reason anybody could have for doing anything."
Clinton cited the record economic expansion during his eight years in the White House as his greatest domestic achievement.
"I kept score, how many people's lives were better off," he said, "the fact that we were able to have 22 million (new) jobs and record home ownership and lower interest rates."
He cited the day the war in Kosovo ended as one of the high points of his foreign policy. "The day that Kosovar war ended and I knew (former Yugoslav President Slobodan) Milosevic's days were numbered was a great day," he said.
The inability to broker an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal in his final days in office was a big disappointment, he said.
Interest in Clinton's book has been intense.
Bookstores in Washington and New York are considering staying open next Monday until after midnight to be able to make the first official sales of the $35 book.
His book is being pre-ordered at a record pace on Amazon.com in its autobiography and memoir category, outpacing pre-orders of his wife's hugely successful book, "Living History," by 7-to-1, a spokeswoman said.

What a sick f*ck. He purgored himself twice. Dude is f*ucking his intern and lying in court about having relationships outside his marriage...
The most insulting thing is that the Bar Association knows he did and slapped him on the wrist. Three years no practice. If my friend did the same thing, he would have been disbarred for life...as most lawyers would have been.
Arrrghhhhh...
What's worse is that N.O.W. still rides his c*ck....yet whines when the President of IBM sleeps with his secretary.
F*ck this dude...president or not. The dude was slimy and played the game....and won. Rather than recgonizing he was...what he was...we praise him.
F*uck.
With that said...
Just needed to get that out...two days in a row now J-10 you have sent me off...not your fault per se, but the posts blew me away. :)

But you have to admit he is a successful dude. :P

I guess it comes down to what you consider a success.
To me, Clinton is NOTHING but an individual Enron. Making money through lies and deceit with the American people getting pulled in every step of the way.
Clinton is NOT a success, he represents part of what is wrong with the United States and it makes me ill.
If you consider 10 million dollars and the additional monies he has earned since leaving the White House....then yes, to you, he might be a success.
For those of us, that value ethics, moral values, a strong and healthy home, commitments made to loved ones, and leadership, he is an absolute failure.

No, idiot boy. Our current president is the polar opposite of Clinton in terms of morals, ethics and leadership.
Your response was predictable, as usual.
I do however, take great pleasure in knowing that you will be squirming for another four years when he gets re-elected.

trigger, despite your claims, there is ample evidence that your assertion certainly does not reflect the truth. we can argue over semantics, lobby partisan grenades at each other, and so on and so forth, so we'll just have to agree to disagree. by the way, i was not a fan of clinton, but not because of his ****** antics but rather some of his policies and style of leadership...

'Agree to Disagree' Fair enough Pinky, but this site has been completely twisted into a f*cking political cage match. It's B.S. spewed by a bunch of spectators (myself included).
Interesting avatar, by the way.
What is it?

Not at all...
Last time I checked, our current president has NOT been impeached nor has he belittled the legal process (and the reasons) that got him impeached.
Plain and simple.

On the subject of Clinton, just the other week a friend of mine sent me a tape of Jackie Mason.
Now I don’t know if any one ever heard of that famous Jewish comic named Jackie Mason but he had a funny few lines about Clinton, where he said “did you know that Clinton was disbarred from practicing law, he’s too much of a liar to even be a lawyer rofl rofl rofl boy it doesnt get any worse then that............a job Btw that’s the lowest of the low, though for the highest job, he’s perfect rofl rofl (at least that what some people thought  )
Ok I guess you need to hear him say it rather then read it from me. But it came off very funny.
Anyways I despised some of his (Clintons) politics, but I will say that he more then any other American president truly mastered the art of what it takes to perform as a politician ;)
Take that for what you will..........

And THAT is the problem with the American Federal political structure...Well perhaps though I must say that I look at it more of a problem with the American populace that can be so taken in by that performance.
For yes he was a master and very skillful at playing the political game (more so then anyone, I dare say that ever was), but ultimately it’s the American people that decide and well they voted him in twice

I admit I voted for him his first term. His screw up in Somalia, refusal to help Rawanda, and the 1994 AWB pretty much ended any support he had from me...
Two years later I burned my Democrat Party membership and went Libertarian.
Because...
Bill Clinton is pretty much represenative of most Senators and House Reps. They are liars and are bought and paid for. Most of them, however, have common decency to NOT brag about it.
I would love to see a third party develop that has its roots in Madisonian beliefs. A party that could bring together disinfranchized voters that want politicians to do their civic duty rather than be bought by say...a Mexican cartel to gaurantee a vote for NAFTA...its a joke man. Politicians, at least on the Federal side of things are so out of touch with reality and quickly becomeing a ruling class in American society.
They force people to pay for social security, but use it for pet projects that have nothing to do security of those retiring. Its used as a tax to balance the budget in Clinton's time and now its being used for god knows what during the Bush Admininstration.
Its outright theft...criminal...
Its disgusting...
