At least 16 people have been killed in a shoot-out between gunmen and police in the Philippine capital Manila.

Manila police chief Leopoldo Bataoil said the men had belonged to a gang that was planning to rob a warehouse in the suburb of Paranaque. The men, some armed with rifles fitted with grenade launchers, started firing indiscriminately after realising police were following them, he added.

At least 10 gang members died along with a young girl and other civilians. "When they found out they were being trailed...they went berserk," Mr Bataoil said. "They fired all around, including at a flammable tanker beside a warehouse."

It's been a growing trend in Metro Manila recently. Even small time robberies or muggings end up in police shootouts. Either life is getting really desperate or the cops are just cleaning up as usual. Vigilante justice have never been really stamped out. But now it involved the police paramilitary. That's heavy.

the most stupid corrupt country! even the law maker and the law enforcers itself is the violator of its own law!!! you can buy guns anywhere if you have the cash home 38 cal would cost only $30 for a class b class a is about $50 or the most used by robbers are the pipe shotgun (just using a homemade steel pipe that could fit a 12-gauge shotgun shell) more cheap less than a $5, m16 assault rifle would cost from $300-$400 for a "grade b condition" grade "a" is about $600 if you have a lot more cash high ends and authentic are also available but you don't have to buy those just look for a gun for hire some would do it as low as $100 see how cheap life is in Philippines? "POWER OVER MONEY, MONEY OVER POWER" thats the basic law of the fu@ked up country like Philippines!

Reality bites.....

During the box fight between Oscar de la Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao, the crime rate in Manila dropped nearly to zero.

Flaim bait!

Tell me how many country actually have Police department that never abuses its authority and follows the law by the book, and maybe your cops walk on water too.

With regards to the gun law its the same as in most ofthe US, 21 years old to own a pistol and you are limited to .45 cal max. One shotgun and or a .22 rifle. The only way you can own an assault rifle through the amnesty. Sure you can legally own one if you are willing to risk 25 years in prison. Trust me our prisons arent as fun as in the US.

Burglars using pipes as shotguns? Whens the list time you were in the know on top of things with regards to the country? Robbers here especially that group, was actually heavily armed with M-16's and even an M203. The fact that about 4 innocent lives were lost is a tragedy, the fact that the robber where wiped out with only that much civilian casualties was a damn miracle. Im not sure its in Youtube but when these robbers operate they operate with military precision, which upon investigation some of the dead were former military men. Think HEAT, when you see how these guys operate.

As for your prices for the guns illegally they have the same price as the saturday night specials in the US. Legally the cheapest gun is $100. AR run around $3000.

More research than posting sometimes.

Really an Elisco will cost you only $300 wow, when? Back in the 1970's in the middle of the fighting in southern mindanao. Only a moron would think an Elisco would be cheaper, or did you base it on the fact that its made in the Philippines? Or did you base on what you heard from your uncles best friends step brothers evil twins who's cousins sister had a helper that had a friend allegedly working for the commies? Geez man, here suggest for you to go to this site "pinoyguns.com" ask for a gun in your price range and watch your ass get laughed, hell ask for an Elisco M-16A1 in poor condition lower reciever only for the price you mentioned. Have fun:roll:

As for the sumpak and pipes used as shotguns, go to the US and you will be surprised, hell I'm sure someone in Europe has some too. Its not rocket science you fool. Heck go to the online Philippine dailies and look for a robbery using a "sumpak."

As for the squatter laws it was designed with a biased for the poor and everycountry has a messed up law.

The criminals really didnt go berserk here, they did what they needed to do to evade the cops, which was create chaos. Ask kim said, some of the baddies where former Special Forces guys, so they knew what they were doing. Do cops did clean them out though.
