A mosque has been set alight in the eastern Bosnian village of Fazlagica Kula, only hours ahead of the beginning of the Muslim holiday of Eid Al Adha, or Kurban Bajram.

The village is located in the southeastern part of the Serb-dominated entity of Republika Srpska, near the town of Trebinje. Numerous mosques were razed in that area during Bosnia’s 1992-1995 war.

The Fazlagica Kula mosque was set alight on Sunday night, officials from the Islamic community confirmed.

Local media reported that the inside of the mosque and its roof were completely burned down.

Although the investigation into this incident was still ongoing and the cause for the fire was still unconfirmed, Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) officials reacted strongly, demanding from the Bosnian Serb leadership and police to swiftly indentify and arrest the culprits.

In a letter sent to Republika Srpska leadership, premier of the other Bosnian entity of Bosniak-Croat Federation, Nedzad Brankovic, said that this “gross vandalism” was an attack against Muslim believers and Bosniak returnees to the area.

“Burning of the mosque in Fazlagica Kula, at the time when believers were supposed to carry out their religious duties, is a proof that there are still retrograde forces who want to prevent the return of trust,” Brankovic said.

Brankovic also offered assistance from Federation institutions in identifying and apprehending the culprits.

The entire village of Fazlagica Kula was completely destroyed during the war. Some homes were rebuilt after the war and several Bosniak families have returned there, despite several incidents and attacks. The mosque itself was reconstructed few years ago.

On Monday, Muslims in Bosnia and all over the world celebrated Kurban Bajram, the Festival of Sacrifice, in commemoration of the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God.

Is this some ethnic manipulation to win favor with one of the sides and bring negative attention to the other? This was a common tactic during open war.Whatever it is, this event will be brought up in future Sarajevo speeches.

Umm....FAZLAGIC Kula. And yet there's no Fazlagices. Don't teach me about the area my whole clan and every family member originates in, I know it better then the back of my hand. We built it.

And I hope your video showing Ustasa atrocoties in WW2 isn't your way of saying it's ok to burn down mosques on reliigous holidays and send threatning letters to people trying to return to their own land and home in 2008. Cuz if it is, by your logic any action motivated by revenge is ok. Which means any murder of a Serb is ok.

Some piece of **** burned down a mosque on Bajram, and the few Bosniaks that have returned here, went to find nothing but a burning heap. How would you feel if your church got set ablaze on Christmas? Which just might happen, after this.

This is a truly vile act. As they say in Bosnia, "hinjski". My sincere hope is that the police apprehends the bastards who did this, as there is no excuse for such an act.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure Bosniak politicians will use this incident to further their agendas. It's nearly election time in BiH, if I'm not mistaken.

Agree on both counts. It's right up there with the desecration of muslim graves in France for badness http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=6416782

I dunno if you could link it to destruction of orthodox churches in Kosovo. As horse thief says you can only push so far before you get a response.
But this sort of tit for tat retaliation and counter retaliation ends up with everyone wrong.

95% of all politicians are 100% dirty

I wonder how many naive people will read this and think if there was no religion it would be utopia?

Calm down balija. I don’t need more amusing threats from you.
Can you provide me with details about your "whole clan" prior to XVII century (before you become "poturice").rofl

Cheers from Xercegovac.

It is a shame that your "people" felt need to hide this cross in the woods.
"Nekropola stećaka Krstine na platou Podveležja, dvadesetak kilometara severno od Mostara gde je smešteno dvadesetak bošnjačkih sela, nedavno je doživela sudbinu sličnih istorijskih lokaliteta u BiH koji su u poslednjih petnaestak godina postali plato za izražavanje nacionalističkih frustracija.
Naime, stećak, visine gotovo tri metra, nije uništen, nego je zbog svog izgleda (oblik krsta) s vidljivog mesta premešten u obližnju šumu i delom uzemljen.
Ashamed of your ancestors and ancestry maybe

Balija? Poturica? Cetnik songs about Bosniak villiges burning? How 1992 of you.

Hello MP mods? Or is this trash allowed? Cuz if it is, I'll join right in and we can all flame the **** out of eachother with ethnic slurrs. Not to mention that religon has 0 to do with ancestry and where you oiginate from, moron.

I see the 'no Balkan bull****' rule, but if that's no longer in affect..just let me know.

:bash:

Moronic coment.

Before the 1992-1995 war there was 1.144 mosques in BiH, of that number 614 mosques were destroyed and 307 damaged.

About Fazlagica Kula (literaly "Tower of Fazlagic's")...this is not first time something like this happens...threatening messages are constant occurrence, in 1999 returning Bosniak refugees were shelled with mortars, "someone" put land mines on frequently used road and just last year bunch of drunken Serbs came to the village in cars singing about slaughtering the "Turks"...and now this.

I think this Fazlagic Kula is mentioned in the book Jelena 93. I remember a Serbian friend of mine from Hercegovina telling me about it and that it is known as a "snakes nest" among Serbs in Hercegovina because so many times over the 2 centuries the muslims from there had attacked their Serbian neighbours. But nonetheless a quite stupid thing to do, I can't see what purpose this serves for anybody.

The Bosniaks from Gacko are simply the most "zajebani". Always have been. But as far as their acts, they haven't done anything that wasn't done to them so they are no different from everyone else in that aspect. Fazlaic Kula is mentioned alot in WW2 cuz it was defended FIERCLY against both Chetnik and Partizan armies and it never fell. It's infamous.

And what purpose? Well look at the guy in here calling me a balija for no reason and singing about Fazlagic Kula burning. Obviosly some people prefer conflict and would love to spark **** off again. And they probly will. I am serious when I say this, don't be suprised if churches are burning on Orthodox Christmas if not sooner. This is the land of blood feuds after all. Herzegovina has been home to many sparks that set off huge fires in the last 5 centuries. The idiots who did this know that so what else could you conclude but they WANT a response?

It gets worse.

For those who can read it.

This is no different than the desecration of Serbian graves and monasteries in Kosovo, and is pure barbarism.

For all nations in the Balkans, final resting places, no matter the religion of the deceased, used to be sacred. What the **** happened to us?
