View Full Version : Austraila vs Japan
austraila and japan are having deplomatic issues, because of illegle whaling. they are probably not going to war, but if they did who do you think would win. here is aome ifo on each milatary.
Austalai milatary
The Australian Army is oriented toward low and medium intensity operations against symmetric and asymmetric enemies. The Australian Army has traditionally been structured as a light infantry force. This has changed somewhat in recent years, with an increased emphasis on motorised and mechanized forces. In the next few years, two of the seven regular infantry battalions will be mechanized (using the upgraded M113 APC) and two will be motorised (using the Bushmaster).
Even so the motorised and mechanized battalions still train with an orientation toward operations in close combat and have a high emphasis on patrolling and other dismounted operations, thus maintaining the traditional Australian skill set.
Until recently the main area of operations has been Asia, particularly South East Asia and the Pacific, so the light infantry orientation has not been a hinderance. In fact the Australian Army is known to produce troops and units with a very high standard of jungle warfare, patrolling, ambushing and other infantry skills.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Army
Due to Australia's relatively small population, its Army will always make up only a statistically small role in coalition operations. Successive Australian governments since 1989 have deployed components of the ADF with specific skill sets, so that the Australian contribution is always of greater significance than raw numbers of troops would suggest. Often this has taken the form of the deployment of special forces, though this has changed in recent years, for example in Afghanistan. Australian forces have always trained with and maintained close relationships the US and British forces and are now being equipped to better interoperate with US/British/coalition forces. The defence relationship with US forces is probably now closer than it has been at any point since the Vietnam war, especially at a working level
Japan
In 1989, basic training for lower-secondary and upper-secondary academy graduates began in the training brigade and lasted approximately three months. Specialized enlisted and non-commissioned officer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-commissioned_officer) (NCO) candidate courses were available in branch schools and qualified NCOs could enter an eight-to-twelve-week second lieutenant candidate program. Senior NCOs and graduates of an eighty-week NCO pilot course were eligible to enter officer candidate schools, as were graduates of the National Defense Academy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_National_Defense_Academy) at Yokosuka (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yokosuka) and graduates of four-year all universities. Advanced technical, flight, medical and command and staff officer courses were also run by the GSDF. Like the maritime (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Maritime_Self-Defense_Force) and air forces (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Air_Self-Defense_Force), the GSDF ran a youth cadet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadet) program offering technical training to lower-secondary school graduates below military age in return for a promise of enlistment.
Because of population density on the Japanese islands, only limited areas were available for large-scale training, and, even in these areas, noise restrictions were a problem. The GSDF tried to adapt to these conditions by conducting command post exercises and map maneuvers and by using simulators and other training deviceshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Ground_Self-Defense_Force

Yes. Yes he is.
In 1994, Australia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia) claimed a 200-nautical-mile (370 km) exclusive economic zone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exclusive_economic_zone) (EEZ) around the Australian Antarctic Territory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Antarctic_Territory), which also includes a southerly portion of the IWC Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Ocean_Whale_Sanctuary). However, Antarctic territorial claims (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antarctic_territorial_claims) are not recognized by most countries, including Japan.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]
On December 14 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_14), 2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007), the Australian Rudd Government unveiled plans to deploy Australian ships and aircraft to monitor Japanese whalers about to enter Australian waters.[31] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whaling_in_Japan#cite_note-30) On December 19 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_19), 2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007), the government announced that the Australian Customs Service (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Customs_Service) patrol ship MV Oceanic Viking (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Oceanic_Viking) would be deployed to the Southern Ocean to collect photographic and video evidence that could be used in a future international court challenge to Japanese whaling.[32] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whaling_in_Japan#cite_note-31) Aerial patrols using an Australian Antarctic Division (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Antarctic_Division) Airbus A319 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A319) would also follow and photograph the Japanese fleet.[33] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whaling_in_Japan#cite_note-32)[34] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whaling_in_Japan#cite_note-33)
The Australian Rudd government's stance on Japanese whaling has attracted very strong public support in Australia.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)] Japanese whaling is seen as a serious threat to Australian whale tourism, which has only become viable as a result of the replenishment of global whale stocks.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)] The negative publicity generated by Japanese whaling seriously affects the general Australian perception of Japan, with potential social, political and economic consequences.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]
On January 8 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_8), 2008 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008) the Australian government sent the Australian customs vessel Oceanic Viking (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Oceanic_Viking) to track and monitor the Japanese whaling fleet in order to gather evidence against Japanese whalers for a possible international legal challenge.[35] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whaling_in_Japan#cite_note-34)
On January 15 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_15), 2008 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008) two activists members of the Sea Shepherd (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Shepherd) Conservation Society travelling on the MV Steve Irwin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Steve_Irwin) boarded the whaling ship Yushin Maru 2 without permission and were subsequently detained onboard the ship for a number of days.
Japan will lobby a dozen members of the International Whaling Commission (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Whaling_Commission) at a meeting March 3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_3), 2008 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008) to support its much-criticized Antarctic whaling program.
Japan claimed that four crew members on board a Japanese whaling ship in Antarctic waters were injured March 3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_3), 2008 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008) when the anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Shepherd) threw butyric acid on board.[36] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whaling_in_Japan#cite_note-35)
Japan confirmed the throwing of "Flashbang" grenades onto the Sea Shepherd (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Shepherd) ship, MV Steve Irwin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Steve_Irwin) by their whaling ship, Nisshin Maru. Japan also confirmed firing a "warning shot" into the air. The captain of the Steve Irwin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Steve_Irwin), Paul Watson claimed that he was hit by a bullet that the Japanese had fired.[37] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whaling_in_Japan#cite_note-36)

I think we need to seriously analyze this. Maybe DF needs it for his Grade4 school assignment?
Let's take into account for us to invade Japan, we'd have to cross Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, Russia... it's a long way to get there, yeah? Logistically, it's a big ask.

I think its achievable. Although fuel prices are dropping, we could use kangaroo cavalry to achieve a sneak attack.
On the way we would get hungry, and eat romania because they have a big building.

Australia is not going to war over whale stocks or tourism.
Japan is not going to war over them either. Especially since their economies are so intertwined.
Both counties have defense treaties with USA,who i doubt would sit back and watch 2 friends in the pacific de-stabilize the area.
I do wonder though ,why is japan continuing to push for resumption of commercial whaling in the face of widespread opposition? perhaps a japanese member could help us with their perspective?

Bear Cavalry > Kangaroo Cavalry
Bear Cavalry
Solid ground support, slow but sturdy, able to carry heavier munitions. Gets distracted by logs, and the need to drop turds on them.
Wild Card: Fear Inducing Roar +8 Attack. Can raise on hind legs and roar for fear effect.
Kangaroo Cavalry
Lighter and nimbler, able to leap over Bear Cavalry, smaller munitions. Operator likely to vomit given the jumping motion while moving.
Wild Card: Can call on DropBear support en-masse, the natural predator of all animal, vegetable, mineral object on the planet.
